    2015 C7 A6 - Brief three-month review w/ a couple of questions

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Still as smitten with my A6 as the day I drove it off the lot on a bitterly cold night this past February. Now, three months later, I want to provide a few brief thoughts.

First, so glad I went with the 19" sport package. For all those who recommended I get it I say - thank you! And to anyone who says the ride is too harsh, I must disagree. Candidly, I find my ride is actually smoother than the 2012 A4 Avant that I traded (w/18 inch rims). Second, I think the 19" inch rims definitely add to the profile of the C7. Yes, there were some trying moments navigating the potholes that ravaged the North East this past winter, but I am no worse for the wear and would not go with a lesser size wheel.

Second, the engine. I'm content with the 2.0T for driving purposes. It gets the job done, acceleration is decent and passing at highway speeds is adequate. Are there times I wish I had more power - certainly. But, for my daily driving purposes remain satisfied with my choice.

Third, the mileage. Pleasantly surprised to see that I'm doing better than what I averaged with my 2012 Avant. Average went from about 27 mpg with my prior Audi to about 31 mpg with the C7 for my daily commute.

Fourth, the ride is exceptionally well-insulated, with nary a rattle or squeak. Love the cabin, materials and build quality - it's worlds apart and better than the A4. Makes my commute so much more tolerable. And the heated wheel in the winter is a god-send.

Now, two questions for my fellow C7 A6 owners:

Regarding the MMI screen, there's been a few occasions - not many but few - that when I shut the car down the screen does not fully retract into the dash. The edge remains protruding so that it is not flush with the dashboard. Similarly, there's been one occasion when I started the car that the screen did not open fully, but only the edge popped out as opposed to the whole screen advancing. Have any of you experienced either of these happenings?

Also, regarding the rear-view camera. How long is the lag from when you start the car and put in reverse to when an actual image appears? Is it instantaneous, or a couple of seconds lag? Just trying to gauge what should be normal (if there even is a normal!).

    Thanks!

I had my dealer replace the MMI screen motor when I noticed it was sluggish. Not the same issue but have the dealer fix it while under warranty....my screen has never had the issue your having....

My rear view comes on within seconds of putting the car into reverse. Hope that helps.

Thank you! Camera comes on w/in seconds too - so my lag must be normal.

My rear camera also has a couple of second delay, as does my iPad.

Interesting about the iPad, because on mine the camera is literally instant upon pushing the button - but it is the newest generation iPad.

I have the newest iPad as well. The nav also takes a few seconds to load.

I've had the MMI screen "stick" in the closed position twice. Both times, I pushed the "open/close" button and it motored out just fine. And yes, a couple second lag time for the rear view camera, but my previous 2 cars, 2012 Volvo S60 and 2011 BMW X5, had some lag on the rear camera as well, figure it's normal.

Nice review. I have a 2014 I have had about 6 months and love mine as well. The longer I have it the more I wish I'd gotten the 3.0 engine though. Unlike you I am only getting about 22 MPG but I only do ~25% highway so all in all not too bad but I'm finding I wish I had more power. Fear of losing my warranty has kept me from tuning it but now I have the breakdown coverage through Geico I feel more secure and w ill be doing that soon. The monitor issue has never occurred in my car. I'd have the dealer check it out. The reverse camera lag is normal for this car. My 2008 and my 2013 A5's had no lag so it threw me a bit the first time I put the car in reverse but you get used to it.

Thanks for the input. Yes, the lag took a while to get use to but as long as it is normal I'm good with it. Regarding the MPG, my daily commute is at least 80% highway. My weekend driving is probably closer to yours at around 24 MPG.

I hated the lag on the camera as well. Not sure if you're like me but I always wait for the rpm's to drop below 1000 before I drop into Drive or Reverse. In that time you can easily hit the parking sensor button on the dash and the camera is on before you put the car in reverse. Its become a habit for me now.

On my Wife's new Tacoma the reverse camera is instant...
