B8.5 and Bosch Icon, am I an idiot?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Ok ...

Am I the only idiot not being able to install Bosch Icon wipers on my S4?

I even started a thread about that few weeks ago. This is the story...

The first time I bought the Bosch Icon, I got the 24-A (driver side) and 20-B (passenger side). I ended up concluding that the brackets were not compatible in any way. I returned those.

Few weeks later, someone told me that, for European cars, I needed the OE version of the Bosch Icon wipers. So I went back to the store and bought a 24 OE and a 20 OE. I smile grew on my face while opening the packages thinking that the bracket looked like it would fit .... WRONG ... it does not. The wiper bracket is too wide by a mm and will not enter the wiper arm socket.

So I am returning that second set. Back to square A.

Am I stuck with the OEM wiper or am I completely missing something here?

For those who installed the Bosch Icon ... did you bought the OE version? Are you having a B 8.5 ?

I really miss those standard U shape bracket so far.

    Thanks guys.

I was just looking for wipers too.

Weirdly, Amazon specifically says on the link above that those do not fit my 2013 Audi S4.... ??

I got those for my '11. Easy install, however I'm getting a lot of chatter, mostly on just the passenger side. Any ideas on why or how to fix? Wouldn't expect this from brand new blades

Haven't had any issues with him. Make sure you regularly wipe off the blade when you wash the car. I also Rain-X my windshields too which probably help.

I've Rain-X'ed all my cars for years and never had any issues. What kind of clouding are you referring to?

I've had no problem ever with rain-x. I use it all the time on all my cars. Hell the Z has probably had it applied 30+ times. No cloudiness at all.

Why not just use the OEM wipers OP? They always work great and you can find them for a decent price online.

ECS tuning has then for $45 for the pair.

I know Rain-X used to eat wiper blades. But generally if you were changing them often it wasn't an issue. Don't remember any cloudy issues, might have been an issue with the windshield in your car, maybe a weak coating or glass?

If the Bosh are fitting then I'd guess they aren't the right ones (or you really are an idiot! j/k). I haven't tried the Bosh Icons on my Audi, rather I went with the Valeo's. Perfect fit and work as good or better than OEMs:

No, you're not an idiot. Bosch apparently is, as they list the Audi B8 series cars as a direct-fit replacement. The Icon OE clearly is NOT!!!.
The bracket has protruding edges on both sides of the plug-in adapter that is supposed to slide onto the wiper arm, that interfere with the bottom flanges of the wiper arm. I'm going to try grinding the bottom edges down to make it fit, but this is completely out of line for a company with the experience of Bosch.

Do not make the mistake of buying the Bosch Icon OE for your B8 Series Audi.

I just got a 24 OE and 20 OE from the local parts place and they fit perfectly. The adapter has to be swapped for #4. The one that is installed won't work, it has to be swapped with one of the three other adapters included in a little bag included with the blades (#4 in my case).

Just had this happen to me today, and saw you guys have had it happen too. So now, I've taken it upon myself for try to encourage Bosch's hand in fixing this issue. I mean hell, at least 1) make it clearer on the box, or 2) fix it so your most common automotive distributors carry the correct part. I kid you not, I have been to 4 auto stores near here and no one has the Clearmax 365 24OE/20OE Icon series blades. Also, see below. What terrible customer service. Luckily, I have nothing but time on my hands, so I will proceed to Tweet this and Facebook it plus send to all their executives until I get someone who actually cares to help.

    Hi Bosch team,

I recently purchased Bosch Icon series wiper blades 24OE and 20OE for my 2011 Audi S4 (B8) on a recommendation from a number of different auto stores who all say these wipers fit perfectly. Yet, the bracket unfortunately, does not fit.

I have a picture of this so you can see this is not a faulty installation.

    https://photos.app.goo.gl/7iHhj4adfaC7aWE82

The design of said bracket is not compatible with the wiper arm, and in this package there were no additional adapters.

On contacting your customer support, I received a call back from a technician who suggested a resolution of: "go around to every auto store until you can find the Bosch Icon blades that say "Clearmax 365" on them? I asked him if there was any other options, like sending me a set of replacement blades or just the adapters, and he said that option is not available.

I hope you guys understand that consumers aren't 1) going to go to 10 stores to find your specific product when most (at least here in Massachusetts, 02035 area code) appear to only stock the regular Bosch Icon, and 2) when a long time customer of Bosch calls in with a request like this, it would be quite easy for you guys to "make it right" and offer to send the adapter.

    Take care,

    Brian Guild

Can confirm, this is 100% correct. The 24" and 20" OE Icons did not fit my B8 A4 Avant, even with Dremel modifications. The Bosch website lies.

Out of curiosity, where did you order from that you got a bag of adapters? My Amazon order of 24" and 20" OE Icons didn't come with any bags of anything... except frustration.

From my experience with my previous luxury cars, I believe that OEM ones are the best and I will pay more on them if I need to. Every windshield out there has different curvature and these generic ones don't work best.

Ive rain-X'ed all my windshields across 8 cars for the last 10 years and never had an issue... And we are talking like 100-200k mile cars as well... not brand new cars or windshields.

I can confirm I also had issues with cloudiness over time, but as was said earlier in the thread, that was back in the late 90's and very early 2000's. So maybe we had bad luck, or maybe they improved their formula, but I also heard the same thing from many other sources around that time, so I stopped using it. Sounds like I'll have to give it a shot again.

For anyone reading this thread and looking for new blades, I just bought these off Amazon last week for $ 25, and they fit perfectly.

Based on my ownership of two Audis, I strongly recommend you stick with OEM wipers and clay your windshield vs. using RainX. Your results will be similar and the maintenance (reapplication of RainX) will be lower.

Agree, claying your windshield is a great tip.

I put PIAA wipers on my car as soon as i got it. The silicone does a good job.

The key is getting the newer OE Icons that are "Clearmax 365" (see attached picture). This blade comes with various adapters. Adapter #4 is perfect for B8.

I have bosch clear view and they fit no problem use with adapter #5 it comes with.
Note the bosch adapters dont slide un right from the end of wiper arm
Have to line up the 2 tabs in arm with wiper clip then push wiper up and in then slide back.
Oe style just slid in from the end and lock in
