I don't blame you, I wish I could. I'm about to pay up $650 in parts for my Mustang. But even that, the roads here are horrible (and not just Illinois I'm sure). I try to avoid pot holes now, and it's even worse in the city. Plus, it's my winter car, and I'd rather not spend the cash for coil overs. I'd bet it would look great though!

I'm planning on dipping my b7 pretty soon here too, was there any problems that you ran into while taping and actually spraying the dip? What did you use to prep the car before dipping? and overall, it's there any advice you can give me, since we both have the same car, is there any weird or different things about dipping this car? How do the door handles hold up?

    No problems for me.

I use rubbing alcohol to clean the surface of the car. You could use a more specific product called PreDip Spray that's only available at DipYourCar.com. Some people use denatured alcohol, but I haven't used it.

Just make sure the car is cleaned very well, and dry. You definitely don't want to spray while there is still moisture hiding in the cracks and crevices. Use good tape. Like 3M branded products, which I use. I also use 3M Yellow refinishing tape. 3M Safe Release Tape and Drape will save you some time in masking. http://www.lowes.com/pd_491793-98-PT2093SR-48_1z0yyez__ ..

They hold up pretty well. I'm always careful when opening my door.

What exactly are you ordering? I just want to make sure you ordered enough product for the car? For my car, I used 3 gallons of black as my base. then 1 gallon of Matte clear with 1 gallon of Glossifier and the recommended 75g per gal. of pearl. So 150g for me. One of the things you should get from DYC is DipCoat Protective Spray. It is $28 a bottle. But it's worth it versus any other spray wax, or detailer, because DipCoat is neither of these (wax or detailer). Just in case you're unaware of the product, check it out in Fonzie's video.

Hah sorry about all the questions, but it's good to talk to someone with experience dipping this car. What about the audi trunk rings? Did you leave those dipped? Or did you peel them? Also, what about the door trim? Did you tape over that, or dip over and peel when dry? And what I was planning on ordering from DYC,

2 gallons- Gunmetal gray, or anthracite gray, still haven't decided for my base coat
3 gallons of DYC topcoat, I'll use 1.5 gallons for my pearl coats
I'll use the other 1.5 gallons for the high gloss coats
    25g stormcloud grey pearl
    25g hyper titanium pearl
    25g Canadian blue micro flake
I won't use all of the Canadian blue, just enough to have a light blue flake mixed in with the rest of the mix. Approximately how many coats did you get per gallon? About one coat per cup in the dyc gun?
    Thanks for the help

Here's the color that the mix should come out to be, I sprayed this through a preval,
If I could post a video, I could show the blue flake in the dip, it looks amazing!

Thank you! It looks like a Dolphin gray at some angles, then you can really see the blue microflake at other angles
    Here's another little teaser

Nah, it's a ll good. I don't mind it. I do it every day on the DYC Forum, and on Facebook.

I did leave my Audi rings dipped. You could peel them, but I just fear that if I peel it, it'll come up with the rest of the car (the dip). They won't, but I'm just cautious. As long as you don't have any bridging with the dip from the car to the emblems, you'll be fine. I guess it's also just personal preference. I prefer them dipped.

What do you mean the door trim, the interior? I posted most of my exterior masking pics here already.

    • I think Gunmetal Gray might be better for your base coats. Only because it is cheaper than Anthracite Gray, and I think you would be better off with 3 gallons. It's also better to have a good amount of dip on your car, for both peel-ability (when you peel the car) and durability. With to little dip/if it's too thin, and a rock chop hits your car, that might leave a scratch. The durability of Plasti Dip won't be strong.

    • With the TopCoat, Glossifier, or any of the Pearlizers, or enhancer gallons, I wouldn't really count that as you would with regular dip. Because these are just too thin compared to standard colored dip.

    • I think 1.5 gallons 'might' give you the desired effect you want. But I'm just not sure the rest (1.5 gallons) of the TopCoat will you the high gloss finish. You could get 2 quarts of the TopCoat, to make that 2 gallons for your gloss finish. I Know when I did my car. I used 1.5 gallons of my pearl mixture to get the effect/color I wanted, and the rest (0.5 gal.), is for touch ups.

    • 50g of pearl excluding the micro flakes total for your car? Usually, for these pearls you're mixing, it's 50g per gallon, and you're using a little bit more than that.

    • Canadian Blue micro flake does sparkle. I've used a bit of that when my Mustang was "Sazuka Blue". I added in a few grams, and it showed nicely!

The dip definitely goes by fast. Faster than you may think. Now, I can't remember for sure, but I think it was 2 full coats per gallon. Giving me 5-6 coats of my base with 3 gallons. I didn't do my roof though. Are you doing yours? Also, what's your experience with the new TopCoat? (It may be easier using glossifier). Some people go into it thinking they could do it, however, many have failed to spray it well.

There is a new app called FyUse, You can record a short clip (like Instagram) and you can link it online and anyone can watch your short video. It's like doing a panorama picture but in 3D.

Here's a few links that have been floating around the Facebook dipping groups:

Yep I'm on the dyc forums and the community and dippers anonymous on Facebook

I do have some experience spraying topcoat, I've only sprayed it through a preval though, I've gotten pretty good at spraying it without runs.

As for the topcoat, if you can get about 2 coats per gallon, the I will be able to get about 3 coats for 1.5 gallons of topcoat. Maybe I'll get an extra gallon just to be safe. And yeah sorry I didn't see your taping pictures! That explains it, haha thanks

And also no I'm not dipping the roof so I'll be saving a lot of dip there, and that app is sweet lll check it out!
