    Dipped (Plasti Dipped) Audi A4

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Hello everyone, here I have my fully dipped Audi in "GC-47 Alien Pearl". In some of the pictures, you'll see black dipped wheels. (The wheels are just the regular matte black with peeled Audi rings). The mirror caps are dipped in "Bright Aluminum Metalizer" to resemble the S4 'look'. I know a lot of people aren't big fans of the dipped emblems, but I like it like that for now. My wheels are currently dipped in "Bright Aluminum Metalizer". This is 4 coats of Pearl on the entire car. The hood was kept stock black.

    Items used:
    • 3 Gallons Black
    • 50/50 Mix: 1:1 Clear/Gloss mix
    • 150g GC-47

    My OEM stock black

    -------
These are just some of the photos of each Photoshoot I've done out of 5 shoots, since I've had the car dipped. This has been dipped for about 7+ months, and the car was purchased last year, about 9 months ago.

    -------
This is the most recent photos I did with a dipped Camaro a few weeks ago.

Questions, Concerns, Thoughts? Now I know this color isn't for everybody, but when Fonzie released the video to this pearl, I just knew I had to have it on what ever vehicle I was driving. I didn't have this Audi when the video was released. It is such a cool color to experience. It shifts from Blue to Purple the most. Greens in the evening, and Red at night. I am hopefully planning on getting tinted windows at some point, and as much as I would like to lower it, that won't happen.

Just hashtag "AlienAudi" on Instagram. You'll see a bunch of photos there. I will also be liquid wrapping my Mustang in a color shifting/chameleon pearl pretty soon.

I get spotted every where now.

Glad you're happy with it. Definitely makes body imperfections stand out. Seems to have held up over the winter. I'll leave it at that.

Huh. How'd the dip hold up with all the washing? I had no idea you could get such an interesting color effect with plastidip.

Its pretty impressive how far plastidip has come. If you watch some of the new videos done over DYC, there are some pretty impressive colors and finishes. Some with the DYC high gloss top coat that look better than OEM clear coat.

This is amazing. Not the colors I'd pick, but props for doing this. The camaro looks more my speed

How long did it take to do, and how much did you have to prep? I'd imagine it's the same kind of deal as spraying a car, so plenty of cleaning, removing trim, etc.

It held up pretty well. It was my first year (2014/2015) driving a dipped car in the winter. The previous 2-3 years, I drove my Mustang in the summer (with different colors). I use the coin operated self car washes. So I do use the soap brushes they have. Some harder than the other locations. The water sprayer at these car washes do not do harm to the dip as well.

You have no idea what you're missing (if you haven't tried Plasti Dip already). There are a few large Facebook groups you can join. It's obviously not all color shifting pearls.. Check out

Plasti Dip sure has come a long way since DYC came about in 2011.

The color on the Camaro is called "Burnt Copper" Alloy Pearl. I did a Photoshoot with this car a few weeks ago. The more I looked at it, the more I loved it.
Here's the album I just posted on the DYC Forum: http://www.dipyourcar.com/forums/sho...28HQ-Photos%29

Yes, plenty of cleaning, and prepping. prepping is key to dipping. The most important factor to a successful dip. I did not remove any of the trim. It's personal preference though. I chose not to. When dipping a car, you obviously want to start with a clean car, and you have to make sure the car is dry before spraying. I see many issues per day when someone posts there messed up bubbling car. Definitely have to make sure the car is dry, and that no water is hiding anywhere. It takes about a day of masking, and a day of spraying. It took me around 7-8 hours to spray.

I'll actually post some of my masking and process photos. It was my first time spraying a white based pearl. White based pearls are meant to be sprayed by someone who knows the product well (in which I do). It's very easy to mess up and 'white out' the pearl. My car, fortunately came out great!

Here's a Tesla, that was just dipped in Burnt Copper. (Not by me).

You can see, that this car is glossy. That's because he used the New DYC High Gloss DipPearl TopCoat. My car was done on a satin mixture (1 gallon of Matte Clear mixed with 1 gallon of Glossifier). The new TopCoat hasn't been released when I dipped my Audi. But I will be using the new TopCoat and Matte Clear mixture on my Mustang for a high satin end result.

Probably both towns. Either or.. I'm around the area.

I know of SCS - Supercar Saturdays, is CnC every morning or? and where? Now that I know a bunch of people that drive dipped cars in the area, we're trying to go to as much car shows/events as we can. If not all of us, then some of us. I know there will be an event in Marengo called State Street Cruise Night.

May 23rd will be the Season Opener for Dog N Suds in Ingleside, and on the 24th, the Volo Auto Museum will have a car show. I'm trying to get these guys come out to (at least, one of) these events. A few of them are near Chicago. Some others local to me.

I have a question about plastiDip cars. Do you have to get rid of rust before plastidip them? what if you paint over rust an bubbling paint, what will happen?

It will look the same but a different color. If you're respraying it why not just sand it down properly and bondo/fill/coat it whatever before applying Plastidip? Otherwise it will look the reverse of what OP's rear passenger quarter panel looks like.

One of the vids on dipyourcar goes over how they recommend patching a small rust hole. I think they used some kind of vinyl patch and a heat gun.

You don't need to get rid of rust, but it would be best if you do. If you're going to be spending the money on dip, you might as well get rid of rust/peeling clear coat, or any imperfections.

It will continue to rust underneath the dip.

I didn't feel like fixing that panel. The car was rear ended before I was the owner. Whoever fixed the bumper, didn't do a very good job.

How have those mirrors held up with the aluminum? I was thinking of doing the same thing. Did you remove the mirror caps first?

They've held up pretty well. I did about 5 coats or so of black as my base. then applied 2-3 coats of "Bright Aluminum Metalizer" on the mirrors. This color covers very well on any color. For my wheels that you see up there, that's just one can of "Bright Aluminum Metalizer" for all 4 wheels. Now of course, there is about 1 can of dip per wheel on there, for Good peelability down the road. I'm not sure how to remove the mirrors, and I don't want to break anything. I just masked the surrounding area really good.

Yeah I've used the aluminum before, its great. Did you just mask the actual mirror (like reflective mirror) portion off and spray around that? As well as masking the rest of the area around it?

    Here's a few dipped Audi's.

I bet if you were to take a look at this M6, you wouldn't even suspect this to be dip. Right? It looks very stock, but it's dipped.

While I can appreciate how much time you probably spent doing this work, it would look so much better if you were lowered. Even a little. Even if on $700 ST coils.
