    Stoptech st-40 or st60

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    All,

I am looking to upgrade to a BBK, and I like the idea of going with Stoptech (unless you guys can suggest any other company around the same price).

My car is a stage II (with plans to go with the RS6r stage III). Its a daily S4 with occasional track days planned in the future.

Question is, do you think the st-40 is sufficient or should I spring for the st-60?

    Thanks for the input.

If you are the diy type, look into the 17z or 18z setups.
There are only 2 things needed to make an Audi work properly - Duct tape and WD40. If it moves and it shouldn't - Duct tape. If it doesn’t move and it should - WD40.

Stoptechs are a Brembo/Porsche copy of their old two piece calipers on the 928GTS/993tt.

IMO better pad selection with the Stoptech vs 17/18Z.

    Braking is tires-cooling-pads-fluid-calipers.

If you run some generic all season tires then it does not make a difference if you run Stoptechs or stock.

I had my ST40's for almost 15 years, no complains but Brembos are definitely better quality. Stoptech bleeder screws are junk.

St40 would be sufficient if you went the stop tech route. Be sure to check out the figment guide for your wheels.

I will caution you that stoptech brackets are junk. I'm in the middle of replacing mine as one was cracked and the other was falling apart. Had the bracket completely broken who knows what could have happened while driving. Don't have the down time to get custom ones made so I had to opt for the stoptech brackets again, but I do not trust them at all. I will have a machine shop make some for me in the near future though.

I have the st40s on my car, 18' wheels with no spacers, they fit better than the stock GIANT calipers. no complaints. have the aero rotors too with street compound pads

I had heard about this issue, but was not sure how few and far between it was. Ya, broken caliper brackets suck, and not having that piece of mind would suck.

Thank you. I am running 18x8.5 ET35, so I wonder if the ST-60 would even fit. Time to download the template I guess.

Many of our customers run the ST40 and ST60 with no complaints at all.

That was because the old brackets did not had a way to secure the studs that hold the caliper, those were just screwed down, they would get loose and break something in the process, new brackets have different design, have a security allen bolt on the side of the bracket that holds down the main stud, bleeders need to be replaced over time but other than that they are a great break upgrade, i have st-40 with 332's and absolutely love them, highly recommended

    I have ST40.

Just broke two of 4 bridge bolts taking them out.

Not sure who torqued them to what before but I've heard it's a common problem. I'd go OEM Brembo personally.

Stoptech quality hasn't blown me away.

The brackets I replaced did have the allen. The brand new stoptech ones I have are the same, except for the bolt that connects to the caliper isn't as large. The other actual bracket itself was literally falling apart (the metal was layering apart). Ill need to take some pictures so people can see. People need to be aware and to closely inspect their brackets is all. I was going to get Apikol brackets, but they wont work with a larger 332 rotor. The st40 is compatible with their bracket from what I found, but I already had the large rotors that I didn't want to replace. I was pretty unimpressed with stoptech response to my issue though. All they said was to contact a dealer to get new brackets, no discount, no sorry, no explanation, no nothing. Besides this issue I have no other complaints (bleeder valves work perfectly for me btw), but its a pretty serious issue IMO. When I use the car every day to transport my kids it adds another perspective on not only mine, but their safety as well.

Oh, I also forgot to mention the caliper brackets on mine turned to mush when I went to remove one of the caliper-knuckle bolts. Just had them all helicoiled though.

I would have replaced the whole setup but I had just bought new pads and rotor rings.
