How do you reset the service interval?

I tried to get in to Audi for the 15000 mile oil change, but they couldn't get me in at any time that fit my schedule. So I went to a friends shop and changed the oil there. Do I need a computer and software to reset the "Service" announcement?

Oil change intervals can be reset in the MMI menu under the "Service Interval" display. Scroll to the bottom and it should be there. If it's a "Service" reminder reset, then you will either need a VAG-Com cable or a visit to the dealer to have them reset it.

Has to be a dealer, my VAGCOM cable with legit VCDS can turn off a CEL but it won't reset the 12 month/10k mile service warning on a B8. Tested this last weekend in a buddy's car.

The VCDS cable does reset it all. There's a specific procedure. I believe it's called "SRI". It's on the Ross-Tech site.
