Realign Active cruise for $750 after bumper removal?? WTF

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hey there everyone,

I had to post up and ask this question. After having my S6 wrapped which required the front bumper to be removed, I started getting alerts that my Active cruise and my breaking guard was disabled. No big deal, right? Drop it at the dealer and tell them that we removed the bumper for the new vinyl wrap, and since then, it started with these codes.

They then informed me that any time the front bumper is removed, the lasers have to be realigned and it will cost $750 to do this! Seriously? Sounds like the biggest waste of money there is.

Anyone experience this, or have any idea of a work around, or another option???
    Thanks,

    Kevin

I have not experienced this myself, but yes if you remove the bumper, the radar sensors will need to be recalibrated as they'll no longer be aligned properly. The process to calibrated them is very time consuming.

I did not need this done and everything is working fine after having the bumper off. AFAIK Audi ACC doesn't use lasers. Also FWIW if the front parking sensor or cables are loose it will disable ACC and Brakeguard.

    +1.

You might want to double-check all of the connections.

Service manager told me that a all wheel alignment cost about $250.00 but if car has drivers assist, lasers and cameras have to be aligned cost about $1500.00

I had my bumper off more than once. Car works perfectly fine without that alignment. Goes back on the same way it came off, any differences will be minimal. There are a number of plugs that have to be plugged in when putting it back on and it is a bit tricky. ACC is radar not laser.

Yep. It's true that this is something Audi recommends in this situation. Also recommended by Audi when the rear wheels are realigned. My dealer quoted me over a grand for it when I realigned my rear passenger wheel. They say it's time consuming to do. There's a thread out there from about a month ago that discussed this in some depth.

It would bother the hell out of me that the dealer is referring to lasers for the ACC when in fact it uses millimeter wave radar units. Those units are not even touched if all they did was remove the front the bumper cover. Most likely, as other here have said, you properly have a connection problem. As far as having the ACC aligned, it is my understanding that if you have lowered the car or modified your alignment in other ways that the ACC would need realignment. Now I have lowered my car and modified the alignment and my ACC still functions just fine. It may not be preforming perfectly but I am not ready to pay $600 for the dealer to realign the ACC yet.

It was dicussed in the other tread, to sounds like something for them to make money on. You go in and ask for wheel alignment and boom it's not $250 but anywhere from $1000 to $1500 extra. I have friends with MB's that have acc radar and did not have to have this service on wheel alignment. Just saying same goes with the bumper removal.
