    Stage 3- parts list

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
So i've been on this forum for a while and have recently comeback to finally start my Stage 3 build. This will be on a limited budget and praying that the engine only needs to be removed/reinstalled once. Ive been updating my parts list constantly with all the Awesome feedback and writes on Audizine. Its been a great to see all the different combo's that tuners come up with given small and large budgets. Wish i had the tools and space to do the wrenching myself so I'm going to have a shop install most of the hard to reach parts. But I'm still looking for a shop near me in the Orlando,FL area or perhaps someone with the knowledge, skill and tools to complete the job. If anyone can offer any recommendations for shops please pm me.

So i purchased my beautiful 2001.5 S4 in Brilliant Black at the beginning of 2005 as certified preowned from the dealership, only had 1 owner with about 26k miles. After about a year i added a GIAC flash which made me fall in love with the car all over again. Well fast forward to present day and standing at 132k that noisy turbo lady has been singing louder. So before the inevitable turbo failure I'm going to start off small and complete as much maintenance/performance upgrades while the engine is out the first time.

    Current Mods:
    GIAC X flash
    SSAC DP's
    ASP Dual exhaust
    Short Shifter
RS4 clutch w/ LWFW(replacing with stock resurfaced Flywheel)

    Future Mods:
    -BorgWarner K04’s with Hardware kit
    -034Motorsport Inlet Pipe set
    -SRM Intercoolers
    -034Motorsport Bipipe
    -Timing Belt Kit
    -Motor, Transmission and Snub Mounts
    -Rear Main Seal
    -Valve cover gaskets
    -Silicone Turbo Hose Kit
    -Spark plugs
Fueling and WM will be added a few months after

The car is my daily driver so I'm not looking for insane HP but would like to reach a solid 400+WHP on 93. I still haven't found a tuner but have heard great things about DAZ so if anyone can pm me a way to contact him please let me know. Also, I'm sure there are somethings I'm missing or should also replace so feel free to contribute your input.
    Wish me luck

why not wait an extra week, save another $300, do the fueling at the same time and only have to tune it for 3+

Why is it not in the cards for you to do the work yourself? I ask because I was in a similar situation. Let a shop do the work or do it myself. I decided to do it myself and I learned a bunch and saved a lot on labor costs. And now I basically know the car inside and out. Good luck on your build.

I'll be honest, its a big task to accomplish with a fruitful reward but its that voice in my head that worries about f@ing it all up. Im mechanically inclined and have done small jobs on my car through the years like oil changes, brakes and DP's. But you're 100% right and I'm going to look into install write ups this week and come up with a tools list now lol. Glad this forum community is around to help all us eager enthusiasts, its truly a valuable resource!

The lists continues but with renewed confidence!

This community is awesome and I have seen many people go out of there way to help people out. And the knowledge and support people have here on the B5 S4 platform is pretty cool. To bad you're not local to me or I would gladly lend a hand.

Well pack a bag and come on down!
But yeah I've seen lots of people going out there way to lend a hand or give helpful advice based on experience.
FYI- found this on the web, seems like a good read

    Fueling list
    -EV14 52lbs
    -walbro 450 fuel pump
    -85mm Billet MAF housing

Going to get in touch with DAZ for tune and I'm still unclear which kit to get for W/M system. Also, is a upgraded FPR required? any good options/suggestions for the air intake? open element? RS4 air box?

I'd get bigger injectors from the get go.

But I would talk to the tuner first before you buy anything.

Give it a go man, you can do it!

I'm just a college student living at home with a 2 car garage, a floor jack, and a couple jack stands. The biggest job I've ever taken on is installing my intercoolers, so I don't really consider myself that mechanically inclined. I plan on doing my stage 3 build myself (I will be looking for a lot of help obviously) since I really want to learn more about my car. I'm not hating on you for wanting to have a shop do the work, but I'm just saying it sounds like you could do the work yourself and save an ass ton of $$$; and also learn a lot in the process.

Nevertheless, good luck with your build man!

Definitely do the fueling at the same time. Injectors/fuel pump/maf are the least of your concerns with respect to difficulty. Like $700 for the lot.

Depends on your definition of budget build. I spent $7500 for my F21 mild stage 3 setup. Three grand of that was a certified Audi mechanics labor. 15k miles later, no major issues.

well if your only looking for fueling you can do,
    injectors $225 http://www.ebay.com/itm/Genuine-Bosc...5cfe28&vxp=mtr
fuel pump $120 http://store.034motorsport.com/aem-3...p-in-tank.html -may need a drop in adapter im in a b6 so idk.
    85mm maf $125 http://store.034motorsport.com/maf-h...i-85mm-id.html

so thats an extra $470 and you have your full stage 3

They all seem to always work. The "budget builds" end up costing 2x as much by the time the thread is over and no longer is a budget build. That or they never get fueling upgrades/tuning to make power and break anything spending money for no reason to be slower than stage 2.

my budget build came in under $5k(including buying the body),but I also got good parts and rebuilt with quality kits(gpop for turbos and had balance checked).Main thing was just waiting for good opportunities and doing my own work. Just bought the last parts yesterday the mufflers so i can finish the exhaust and actually take it down the road without the evil stares ha.

Yeah, I mean mine worked great for the most part, just a lot of little things popped up afterwards. But I guess that's what we get considering it was myself, Rob, and G$ (mainly those 2) doing it in 19 hours running on nothing but mountain dew and wings over. Whenever I get another B5 it'll be a thorough build.

    Hey S4Biturb0
I havent posted on AZ but posted some on Audiworld. I did pretty much same build as you have outlined in NJ. I went with Frankens, used Vast Devils Own WM and Daz tune. Anyway, I have since moved to FL and probably about an hour or little more from Orlando. I could give you a day on a weekend to help a fellow audi enthusiast and contribute something for the knowledge I've gained here. I still have my car same year and color as yours. Trailered it down from NJ to Land O Lakes FL. John

Get the fueling kit now instead of SMIC and transmission mounts. You can have a stage 3 with the stock SMIC and current transmission mounts and add them later.

I was definitely considering getting the F21's simply due to price but i might be getting my hand on some freshly rebuilt BW for cheaper then the F21's but if that doesn't pan out i will be getting the F21's. But i greatly appreciate the offer in help and graciously welcome it so i will keep you notified when i start the project. Might take a few days off of work to start the tear down and then do the reinstall during the weekend leaving me sunday to do the finishing touches.

Might wait on SMIC since I'm adding W/M kit but will be replacing tranny mount cause its really not an expensive piece and should be simple to replace with the motor and tranny out.

Plan on a lot of extra days for the build. Mine ended up taking me a couple months. Granted, I had another vehicle and didn't need the car done by any certain time. I would imagine a good shop is going to have the car at least 2 weeks. Just trying to give you an idea on the time frame. Dunno if you have any other help or knowing your skill set. I can definitely lend some help. John

With good planning, it can be done in a weekend. I mean it's certainly wise to plan in some extra time in case something is broken during install/removal, but there is no reason to set an expectation that a basic K04 build should take "a couple months" or even several weeks...

^this. Pulling the motor and doing the work yourself is a great learning experience. You get to know your car on a whole new level and it is rewarding as hell to say you did it yourself. I just finished my build which is very similar to yours. PM me if you have any questions. Good luck!

Yes, I'm sure it can be done much quicker. I didn't mean to set those expectations. Read all the builds and install DIYs you can. That should help you plan based off those.

2 weeks? I had a motor out twice in one day because we found a small coolant leak after putting it together.
Never argue with an idiot, they'll bring you down to their level and beat you with experience.

I live in Altamonte. I can lend you a hand after work during the week and on the weekends. As long as I am in town and don't have anything planned I'd be more than happy to help out. Hell I'd offer up my buddy's garage space and use of the 2 post lift but his dad's Austin-Healey 3000 is currently on it.

The way i see it, pulling the motor and tearing it down will be the easy part but putting it back together correctly will be when i will need the most help! Thats when i will be calling everyone over for additional input and Im hoping to have this done within about 4 days but you never know until the motor is out!!

Be careful if you start running more than stock boost with stock intercoolers. The plastic end tanks can pop off. The F21's or K04's will produce a good amount of boost depending of coourse on the tune you get. When I had my F21's put in, I had a leaky wastegate line and my wastegates didn't open. I hit the gas and 30psi spike blew my driver side intercooler hose off a couple times.
