What are some must-do mods for the RS4?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Hi guys, I wanted to know what are some must-do mods for our cars that will make the driving experience more fun and exciting, even though it's already super fun.

I'm specifically looking for non-power mods so no exhaust, DPs, tune, etc.

The first things that come to my mind are various mounts that can be replaced to firm up the drive train and reduce slop.

If I'm not mistaken, there are 4 different mounts that could be replaced: transmission mount, engine mount, snub mount, and differential mount. Would you guys recommend changing all of them? If I did change all 4 mounts at the same time would the difference be night and day? What should I expect after the install? I'm just worried that they will create excessive noise and vibration. I know various companies make these products including, stern, 034, and apikol. Which brand would you guys recommend for each of them?

What other mods do you guys think are almost essential for the car to increase the car's driving dynamics without sacrificing comfort and daily drivability?

    Thanks in advance!

^ That was one of my first modifications as well. Although I did the B8.5 FBSW with titanium colored stitching (matches the carbon fiber accents).

It is something you enjoy and touch every drive.

Also did the RNS-E upgrade, something I enjoy every drive as well.

bang for buck, get a JHM short-shifter.

I have the Apkoil street dif mount, 034 street trans mount and stern motor mounts. There was a slight increase in vibration if you leave your hand directly on the shift knob but thats really it. I would recommend all of these int he street density configuration.

As some one else said the upgraded steering wheel really adds to the feel of the car. I would also get the updated nav unit as well. The updated nav has live traffic and better resolution which all makes the car feel a bit more updated.

    Good luck.

didn't want to make the topic too broad and all over the place. I just want to enhance the overall feel of the car not power yet.

The JHM shifter crossrod is a good one to buy and then install when the factory finally breaks. Mine broke around 130k miles and left me with only 3rd/4th, and no car for a week while waiting for one to arrive from JHM.

The benefits are: cheaper replacement than buying a whole new shift linkage because Audi doesn't sell this piece separately and it tightens up the shifter slop.

I still have a house in NJ but live in NC now and the RS4s are here with the 98 C2S. I do have one car in NJ still but motor and trans are out. Need to get it down here hopefully by end of Summer to put some money into it. I am in NJ this week for work...will check up on my house and stay in Princeton area for work.

Best mods are steering wheel, suspension and exhaust. I have TTRS wheel and MTM cat back and full Milltek. I have driven ppls cars with Stasis MS and loved it but never installed a suspension yet. I do have a used KW V3 one though.

Trans and rear diff mount, some kind of exhaust work, and some kind of drop. In that order.

    Must haves for me:

    - Euro wheel
    - Apikol diff mount
    - 034 torque mount once your OEM one fails (which it will, probably before 50k)
    - 10 MTM spacers. Made the car look a lot more aggressive, with zero downsides in performance (no rubbing with a 26" ride height on Stasis MS)
    - LED license plate lights. Makes the car look a lot more modern than the dull yellow OEM ones. Instant-on adds to the modern feel when unlocking the car too.
    - LED city lights. Kind of a bling thing, but again, looks much nicer with the xenons than the yellow OEM ones
    - vag mods to turn off parking lights when headlights on, one-click unlock all 4 doors, remove seatbelt chime, and windows up/down with key fob

Theres are other things I'll do over time, but the car feels and looks pretty sorted as is.

Personally since this is my DD, I don't actually want the car any louder. I'm going to modify the flaps so I can open/close them with a toggle (overriding S mode's control so they stay open all the time or defer to S mode/non-S mode control). That will be enough for me. :)

I use to think the same....but having an exhaust doesn't have to be excessively loud at all...even an H pipe and piggies, gives you some more grunt....

JHM LWFW and Clutch, 034 Trans Mount and Apikol Diff Mount will surely transform the feel of the car. Smoother more precise shifts.

Granted I have only had the car for a week but the best thing I have done to date is get the bluetooth adapter so I can stream from my iPhone to the radio.

    http://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Personally this was really important for me as my commuter is a little more modern and bluetooth streaming is built in.

And Plasti dipped the front grill surround.

The previous owner did a bypass of the CD changer and installed a ipod wire. So it was totally plug and play.

Sound quality is OK. It is not super crisp so anybody that is an audio fanatic will probably be dissapointed but it certinly solves the problem of getting access to music.

In my opinion it is worth the 90 bucks, hands down.

Aux cable FTW....better sound quality and totally OEM, don't lose any oem functions (CD, Sat, SD card, radio) and doesn't drain your battery on your device like bluetooth....

Being a car guy, I would say that just about anybody in the sport when it comes down to first must-do mods, it's usually a CAI and exhaust to start with.
I'm going to start with some appearnce mods myself for the first time ever instead of performance mods
