Paint or powder coat my titanium wheels?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
My titanium wheels are badly curbed up and would like to get them fixed. I've been to a local powder coating shop and it seems like they can't match the exact titanium color, so I'm thinking of getting them painted instead.
Would painting look oem or too glossy? Are oem wheels originally powder coated or painted? To get them painted, do I need to go to a body shop or a wheel repair shop?
    Thanks!

OEM are painted, they use a matte clear I believe. I forget the paint code, but it's here if you search.

My local Alloy Wheel Repair shop can powder coat them any OEM color. The do a powder coat base, then they spray the OEM color, then cover it with a powder coat clear. I've seen their work, I will likely be taking my wheels to them next time. They're a small chain, see if there's one near you - http://www.awrswheelrepair.com/

Not sure where in OR you are, but if in the PDX metro, http://www.wheelkraftnw.com/ can match the color I'm pretty sure and also do a full repair on the curbage before painting. I think it is $225/wheel to fully repair all damage and then make them look like new.

I had them fix some curb damage on 1 wheel...they came to my house and did it in the driveway. Turned out perfect! Also, for reference, the company Sunset Audi uses for all wheel repairs.

    +1

AvusPDX just had some curb rash repaired, and all 4 of his OEM wheels painted here I believe. I hear nothing but good things about them.

Their price for rash repair depends on how many wheels you have done: $140 each/1 wheel, $130 each/2 wheels, $120 each/3 wheels, $110 each/4 wheels.
Their price to repaint wheels is a flat rate of: $160 each wheel I believe.

Good timing for the question - my Titanium wheels are being powdercoated by a Denver shop right now. They admitted they don't have the exact paint code L-Y7P, but would do their best to match. Will be dropping the car off for 65K service this Thurs and the wheels will be mounted then. I'll post pics of how it turned out as soon as they're on.

I say paint them factory color. I personally think that the off color powder coats just look cheap. The OEM Ti color is perfect

Evidently I could be charging a lot more for wheel refinishing.

Just had my OEMs re-done in Ti from silver last week through AWRS. Results came out great. My local guy told me they paint now but were going to begin powder coating this year sometime. Don't know if that applies to every franchise or just my local one. They did work before on my M3 and results were just as good then too.

Just had my silver OEM's powdercoated since it is much more durable than paint.

Some better ones I snapped today, just a little dusty. All four cost me $500.
