Some generalization: I think "audi" and "lexus" people can be open and objective to all cars while some other brands will attract more "fanboys" that will only badmouth other brands.

I think Infiniti people as well. All the guys at my Infiniti dealership wished me luck when I got my S5, and actually asked me to swing back by for them to see it.

That's what differentiates car enthusiasts from the fanboys. The enthusiasts "get" that each brand has it's pros and cons, and enjoy cars for what they are. The fanboys blindly follow.

Kudos to the guys at Club Lexus.

I test drove the RC-F when I was shopping and it was a lot of fun. It had a good rumble, it had the electronic dash which I liked, and the seats were extremely tight and comfy. All of that said, I thought the interior felt way too old or minimal -- I couldn't put my finger on it.

Ultimately, I think it's hilarious that someone on that thread said our nav screen was too small. Anyone who has been in a RC or RC-F knows what I'm talking about -- it doesn't fill the dash well at all and the center stack feels cheap (see above about old/minimal).

Overall, great car, great engine, not competitive with some of the new M and AMGs coming out, but a blast to drive. You can see where my dollars went though.

the rc-f is an amazing machine. i get that the looks are polarizing, but it's something fresh, and a blast to drive. the lf-a trickle down stuff is pretty cool too.

my biggest gripe with lexus is how shitty the interiors are. they need to use some real quality materials instead of the plastics galore.

the rc350 is suited to compete with the a5 rather than the s5, and honestly i'd probably have a hard time choosing between an a5 or a rc.

The only reason I went with the A5 over the RC350 FSport was the 6 SPD manual being available on the A5. Okay...maybe two reasons...the APR flash wakes up the A5. Can't really add big power on the 2GR motors.

The direction Lexus is taking with its with its exterior styling reminds me of Audi when it first came out with the b8 line up. Bold, classy yet sporty, eye catching. I gotta say that Lexus is a car I would consider for purchasing, and I may considering my fiance likes the Toyota and Lexus brands (slowly converting her over). However, my experience with Lexus is one I've felt with most if not all Japanese models. Driving one I just get the feeling of plastic. They just don't feel refined. Can't explain it, but I've always felt that way. I could definitely see my self owning one, especially the rcf, but for really enjoying the over all driving experience I would probably stick with a European car everytime. I have friends who would make fun of me because I would spend money on a European car while they drove Japanese models. Not too long ago they both purchased European cars, and both of them thoroughly enjoy driving them (one an A6, the other an X3). One of them said he can't even go back to driving his Infiniti because it just doesn't feel the same. I agree.

Can't imagine waking up everyday looking at that spindle grille...Let alone drive the car.

The horrible sale of this car alone speaks volume, that you can't just ride on the coattail of reliability and being bold, but you need that total package. It's unfortunate, really, because I really want Lexus to do well.

The engine is a bit dated too I thought. I preferred the old design. They changed way too much in the "upgrade".

i would pick a stock rc over a stock a5. a rc-f sport cost almost as much as a s5, it would be pretty hard. i think id choose the rc-f sport over the s5 in terms of look. i really love the way it looks minus the seperate LED check on the bumper. football playerzssss

@GSS5 is correct on the polarizing views. Take the spindle grill -- you either love it or hate it. Me personally, I love it. It's edgy and prominent. I'm on a similar line of thinking as @bknewtype though about the separate LEDs up front. What I don't get is how you put out a brand new model in 2014/2015 and it doesn't include LED turns and tails.

My only request as this discussion continues on is to separate more clearly RC-F and RC350 F Sport. I'm not sure which model people are discussing when they say RC-F sport :)

few years back before I got my S5, I drove my friend's IS250 and I was extremely impress by how nice & smooth it drive! It wasn't a brand new car, it was same 5yr old and very close total mileage as my 335i. After switching back from IS to 335i, 335i drive like shit! 335 still shine on performance & handling but 335 drive so rough, so raw and remind me driving a truck or beat up turbo civic! And that's made me become a Audi's fansboy now because the S5 able to drive as smooth as refine as the Lexus but also handle & braking as good as bimmer. It end the game! after 20yr with BMW, no more BMW for me anymore. BTW, Lexus handling & MT feel sucks

I went to the dealership to form my own opinion about the car as well. Although nice and new, the dash design and layout still felt oldschool lexus; lots of plastic and lacking creativity and flow in design. The gauge cluster is cool with the moving watch-face of a speedo, but for some reason it didn't feel refined like I wanted it to. I still prefer Audi interiors, and to me interior design is just as significant as exterior. The exterior also reminds me of a scion frs for some reason...

Maybe it's a stretch, but it's like they took the frs as a base, strectched some of the features, then started to "tech-up" the look. Then they sharpened lines a bit but restrained themselves before it got of hand...no? I see a toyota-sport like nose, an LF-A cockpit, and then new hyper-tech lexus bold for the rear.

    Just me? lol ok.

Have to say as a prior owner of a BRZ, I'm a little offended by this. LOL. The FRS/BRZ looks way better than the RC. Performance wise, not so much...without a few mods.

January sales are comparable for the A5 and the RC. The Audi stats are misleading. Sales are up 14% from January 2014 but only because of the new A3 platform and the Q3. All other platforms are way down, including the A5. Even more incentive to get the new B9 platform out!

I used to own a 2013 Lexus GS 350 which shares its drivetrain with the IS 350 and RC 350. Its engine, the 2GR-FSE, is not in the same league as Audi's 3.0 TFSI or BMW's N55. It has significantly less power at lower RPMs. Additionally, IS, GS, and RC AWD models are equipped with a six-speed automatic transmission, not an eight-speed automatic transmission as is prominently mentioned in advertising.

That RC will look dated as hell in a few years time, while the *5's will always look great no matter how old they are. There's a reason Audi was able to get away with just a facelift and keep the car basically the same for 8 years while still having solid sales numbers. The RC is polarizing to begin with, and it will have to be refreshed in a few years because it's so over the top.

That's why in my first post I said sales are horrible for the RC if it sold the same amount to a car which debut 8yrs ago. Lexus estimates that they'll push out 17500 (2500 for rcf and15000 for the rc350) annually but I'd be shocked if they accomplished half of that.

I owned a '13 Lexus GS F Sport for almost 3 years, and it is an overall great car. It handles well, has enough power to get out of its own way, and the Cabernet/Aluminum interior with the fake leather dash is really nice. With that said, when I traded it for my S5 I could definitely feel the difference that everyone is talking about. The S5 just feels tighter and more solid, and there is no comparison in the engine department. The S5 actually even rides better than the GS while cornering better. (Thanks, Quattro and Sport Diff!)

Re: the RC350 F-Sport, I never drove it because I sat in it and felt it was a step down from the GS. The S5 is in no way a step down. Even with the smaller nav screen, the interior just feels like it should in a $60k+ car.

Re: Infiniti, we have a '13 G37 Convertible. It is my gf's car and I drive it as little as possible. It is great for top-down, sunny days... and it still looks great... but it doesn't come close to the S5 in any way. She loves it. The lease is a lot cheaper than my S5. Everyone is happy!

Its not as bad as the IS 350 f sport...the bumper and grill is far worse than this. The corners of the bumpers looks like the owner curbed them. It also reminds me of a catfish.

Yes Lexus front grills are love them or hate them for sure.. I was a big Lexus buyer had 4 over the years.. I traded in my Lexus suv for a new at the time
Audi a8l.. big family so needed room.. haven't looked back at lexus since lol... My son since graduating college and starting his career purchased a 2013 a5.. seems like audi was ahead of lexus at the time on technology.. audi sales manager said once you go audi you'll never go back... so far he;s been right.

I gotta agree -- the new Q7 is worse than the RX. I do want to see what the new GX will look like which is the Q7 competition.

IMO a lot of japanese cars are looking sportier than the previous gens, and the germans are looking worst. not saying they are ugly, but a lot i prefer the previous gen ( bmw e9x vs f30/40, b8 vs 8.5, etc etc ), with a few exceptions of course.

we drove by the lexus dealer last sunday, while lexus has a lot of things that makes it ugly( grille, LED check mark), they also have some great looking angles. nice side profiles, nice rear, etc.

the q7, while incredibly ugly, still maintains some sense of coherence in the design. the rx to me is a confused jumble of incoherent lines that look like they were drawn by an overenthusiastic 5 year old. but that's just my opinion.

they're both ugly cars i would never buy.

i dunno, i actually kinda like that lol. i felt the same at first when i saw the new models introduced with the big ass predator grille. it has grown on me fast though. i saw the new RX in person when it first came out and disliked it, but now im OK with it. not that i would buy one, but i dont think of it as being ugly, as lets say, a juke.

you do realize that's the new new rx..like it came out yesterday? the nx in comparison i think is a better looking car.

different people, different tastes. really no use debating design, as long as you agree that the new q7 is fugly.

I like the new little truck. NX maybe? As for the RX, I'm just glad to see a new body. God I was getting tired of seeing those. Felt like they had gone unchanged in 10+ years.
