Anyone here upgrade their coil packs to the ones that the R8 uses? Plug and play?

Because I had misfires this week and plugs were done less than 10k miles ago. It's an opportunity to see if someone upgraded their coil packs and get their feedback. So I in turn can make a better decision.

Question is still open about general coil pack upgrades, but I just checked part numbers, and it appears the coils are the same already.

honestly it seems that people who upgrade to "better" coil packs have more trouble than what the factory ones were. Ive have a B5 s4 for 4 years and had all factory stuff on there and 0 issues with them. yes the coils were very expensive vs the R8 or 2.0T ones. But you had to delete the ICM's to make them work and seems like a lot of people on the B5 threads were having a lot of issues with doing that delete.

Now if something comes up to where its plug and play and just a direct replacement without changing anything else but the coils then yea may be worth a shot. But for like 20-40 per coil Id just stick with whats factory. I had a B7 and their coils were junk until they came out with the recall to replace them all. But the factory coils were only 26 bux each and every B7 owner kept a new one with them at all times incase of issues. They took all of 5 min to replace.

i would just leave them alone and just stay with stock.

LOL at this unless your racing your car why would you want to replace them with these 1100 bux lol. For factory coils that cost what maybe 50 a pop. You can replace your factory ones 3 times over complete before you hit 1100 bux. And they don't look the nicest either. Seems like a decent solution if you were tracking the car all the time or racing it. That price is like owning a boat

bro, nobody is knocking them. it was said they are (a) expensive; and (b) that West installed them in his "race car" at some point.

    how is that "slagging" them?

Someone stated why would you waste 1100 bucks when you can get OEM once for 50 bucks a pop unless your racing. The oem once are still going to misfire that's why we have uprated them to IP. And.I'm not racing my car and no intention.yes I like a bit off spirited driving and that's when the coil packs went down under load.if you drive like miss daisy Yeh stick to stock,if they work there worth every penny and up to press mine do if they go down I will be the first to tell you not to buy them.its a learning curb

When I had a B8 A4 we used to swap up to our "R8" coilpacks all the time and it solved misfire issues and people had less replacements. It was recommended by APR and other major tuners for the B8 A4. The okada was a step further up in price and performance but most couldnt justify the cost. Here are some helpful links..

    http://www.audizine.com/forum/showth...38-spark-plugs

    http://www.hstuning.com/blog/project...on-coil-packs/

They will likely allow you to run a larger or factory gap at higher hp levels compared to stock coils. You may sacrifice a bit of power but of course the other way to combat these misfires would be to try a smaller gap at higher hp levels.

Hey Audistealth If you are close to me I can get coils at cost from the dealer for you. Probably around 20-30 id guess. Thats what i paid for extra's for my B7 S4.

Yes those coils are nice. But unless i needed those coils I won't buy them because A) They are to expensive. B) I can buy a ton of factory AUDI ones for dirt cheap and still come down on top over the cost of those coils.

The only way i would consider buying them would be if I was having to replace them like every couple of months. Just out of being lazy and not having to deal with it. But I read and was told that the B7 coils are junk and they go bad all the time. But i owned my B7 for 2 1/2 years and only had 1 coil go bad over that time. Yea it caught fire but it was only one went bad. I replaced it and that was it. Unless i had lots of money and didn't care its kinda finanically dumb for me to buy them. I just can't justify it.

you just put a screw driver under it and gently pry up and just grab onto it and pull up gently you don't really need the tool

Naaa, it's fairly straight forward. With the car off just disconnect the harness from the coils itself, remove and replace.

If you want you can smudge some dielectric grease on the boot.

Hmm, I've never done coil packs myself, but it seems extremely easy. I'll look for a YouTube video to see the grease thing and give this a whirl. Thanks for the constructive help guys!

I swear I'm not an idiot. I myself or with help have done oil changes, intercooler swap, intake, exhaust, strut brace (required cutting back part of the strut tower near where the ground attached), bulb replacement, and a skid plate before...but clearly not everything.

Very intrested in the ip coils. Better ignition means better Combustion and less carbon. That itself is worth the 1000 bux. Plus when I take the car back to Kuwait we have 98 octane pump gas, that should be fun haha. Did you change your plugs? As a driver did u feel any difference in engine response? Where did you get your coils from?

Thank god someone finally understands why you change from stock coils to Ignition Projects, i did change the plugs the same time but just replaced them with stock thats what they recommended. there is a difference but i all so changed the cats and the headers with supersprint, and got rid off the Armytrix exhaust and replaced that with a custom exhaust,so its hard to tell how much difference the coil packs are making, but i havnt had any misfires so far and thats why i changed them.i purchased them here in united kingdom for £900
another reason why i changed them i will be going stage 3 if Magnuson pulls it off if not will go with another company but thats allways been on the cards to put a bigger blower on it

    Hi Dave,

What is the difference between the genuine and the bremi ignition coils? Is it worth the extra for the bremi?
