Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I've searched and maybe im a little slow but couldnt seem to find a good one. I have a cracked reservoir and figure its as good a time as any to flush it if I have to replace the tank. Cant someone please point me in the right direction if there is a good one preferably with pics. Thanks

There is a drain plug on the bottom of the water pump or thermostat (cant remember). Extremely easy.

Drain the coolant as above or take off the lower rad hose. If you want to flush you can run a hose and flush. Drain everything and reattach the hose if that's how you drained. Fill with close to 50/50 distilled. I usually just leave the cap off the reservoir and elevate it a bit, start the car, heat on and fan on low. Once you get hot air blowing top up the reservoir.

I have an A4 so likely a bit different. On mine there is a bleed screw on the top coolant hard line but it is plastic and cheap, I've already had to replace it with a metal metric bolt. That's why I say I usually opt to bleed the air out via the reservoir, works the best for me, pretty sure the cap is self venting anyway.

Here's a B6 A4 one with pictures if it helps at all, different setup. Apart from how you decide to drain, filling it up is essentially the same if you decide to go the full flush route. I never have, I always just drain until it stops then top up with 50/50 distilled.

If you have an air compressor and you never want to worry about air in the system ever again, this is a phenomenal investment.

Pick up distilled water where ever, pick up a jug of G12 coolant at a VW dealer (cheaper there usually), done.

Doesn't look like it. I googled and didn't find any for a B6 S4. Looks like here's the opportunity you've been waiting for to do your first DIY!

IIRC G13 is now the standard.

I bumped this thread back in july, had the same question. Just drained it at the thermostat, same pic as in post 2. I probably should have drained it, ran it with distlled for a little bit, then replaced 50/50 mix to make sure it was really clean, but I just drained and refilled. I did it with 55,000 miles on it, looked ok to me. I did not have a problem getting the air out either, was really smooth overall

FCP Groton has G13 on sale for $19.98/gal right now. I bought two gallons for the future at that price!
