Advice on 2 bent Alzor wheels

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
So let me start by saying I'm not trying to bash any vendor or product here, I'm strictly asking for advice. About 2 months ago I bought a set of Alzor wheels. I live in NJ and we obviously have pot holes everywhere so I'm not going to pretend like these wheels have never hit any. I will say the ones I have hit were very small and in my years of owning OEM and aftermarket wheels I've never bent any. I recently took my car to the dealer because I was getting a severe vibration in the rear and I noticed the wheels weights fell off one of the wheels that they mounted. The put the wheels weights back on but on the test drive noticed there is still a very slight vibration at highway speeds. They put it on a lift and found the driver side front and passenger side rear wheels have minor bends in them. This obviously sucks considering I've avoided any big pot holes and didn't expect them to bend so easily. I'm going to take the 2 wheels off tonight to see exactly how bad they are but the dealer said it wasn't too bad and I feel only a very slight vibration going between 70-80. My question is should I spend the money to get them fixed, or should I invest in new set of non-Alzor wheels all together. I've read so many people say they've run this brand without bending so I'm wondering if I just got a bad set and should just replace those 2?

The Alzors are 18" with the OEM 245/40/18 tires just fyi. Also, if I decide to fix them, would they be as safe to drive on or am I better off scrapping them. Since the vibration is minor I'm not going to run out this weekend. I'll probably wait till the roads are fixed up a little before doing anything but I can't decide which way to go.

Considering how inexpensive Alzor's are (18in peelers are $125ea) I would reach out to your vendor and explain that two wheels bent even though you haven't hit any large potholes. Maybe they'll offer a discounted price on a pair of replacements.

I'm hoping it's really one wheel that's worse and I can get away with just replacing that one. I'll try to contact them after I take the wheels off tonight to see how bad it is. I guess depending on the extent of the damage it will also tell me if it's worth sticking with them or trying a different wheel manufacturer.

They are so cheap you can buy new set again. This is what I'm gonna do if something happens with mine

If the dealer said they weren't to bad that means they are perfect haha. A slightly bent wheel will not cause vibrations if it can still be balanced out. Honestly any wheel regardless of manufacturer can bend if you hit a pothole just right, around here places charge about $80 to straighten a wheel but if it balances out do you really care? Straightened wheels are absolutely safe to drive on. If it was me i would just keep them as a winter set.

At least one of them is bent enough to cause the vibration. Luckily I still have the stock wheels (with no tires or TPMS) so my plan is to fix or replace these and use them for the summer, when the roads are nice. Then get a set of Blizzak's for the stock wheels to use in the winter.

We typically don't warranty Alzors for pot hole damage. But we will sell you replacements individually if you choose to go that route.

I always recommend that during the colder months you check your tire pressure regularly. Cooler temps mean less dense air so it's very possible for your tire pressure to drop. Thus making the tire softer and more susceptible to bends in your wheel.

Thanks. I'll see how bad the damage is tonight then make a decision. The tire pressure was set to 38psi. I confirmed the morning after they were mounted/balanced cause I specifically asked the dealer to set it at that.

You were def right on that. I took all 4 wheels off to check and 3 of them were completely fine. One of them had an extremely minor bend that was barely noticeable. I think i'll try to get a road force balance to try to get it smooth again. I'm also wondering if it could an issue with the tires. I already had 1 replaced at 7k miles under the Pirelli warranty.

I also had a brain fart last week cause I was preoccupied with work but I bought an extra wheel from the ECS scratch and dent sale that's been sitting in my garage. I wanted to use it as a spare so worse case i'll use it to replace the bent wheel and use that one as a spare.

Scratch n dent sales are great for picking up an extra wheel for a spare! Prices are way below retail so it helps to frequent the site as these pop up randomly and typically don't last long!

Advice on 2 bent Alzor wheels

Just wanted to say that my alzor wheels have seen some potholes this winter and have held up perfectly.

I also have had a set of Rotiform's with minor bends repaired for about $75 a wheel and can say it's a pretty safe and easy fix. The only reason I wouldn't consider getting them repaired is if there was major damage like cracks in the barrel.

Around here it typically costs around $100 to repair a wheel.
Have had it done a couple times and comes out great.
But not worth it IMHO on a $125 wheel.

    @JASON =

I have a bent Alzor 18" wheel and have tried contacting ECS to see if I could get one replacement and was told that I could not. So do you offer single wheel sales as you stated above or only sets? Please advise -I have wheel that really needs to be replaced, the others are fine.

Hmm.... Makes me not want to buy the 19" replica RS5 wheels from Alzor if your guys 18's are bending.

yea that's a little surprising. i definitely have to worry about roads here in nyc and thought some replica 18s with 245/40 would be just fine. i guess im going to stick with turning my OEMs into my winters with some 245/40/19s
