First world problems, choosing caliper paint color?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
B6S4 front brakes on the way, I want to paint them before I put them on but am having a hard time deciding what color to choose. I do like the red caliper look, but am afraid it will be too flashy for oem brakes?
Thought about silver also, might have a clean new oem look to it?
    Black is boring
    Thoughts?

I went silver with the S4 logo springs. Looked sweet at first but after a year it's looking tired and I wish I went red.

I went with Bronze on my black Avant, I run USP wheels in the summer and gunmetal colored A6 wheels in the winter. Looks subtle but good on black IMO, especially considering stock/OEM brakes. I might scream "look at me" with red if I had some monstrous BBK filling up my wheels.

I went with canary yellow on my b7 brakes (same caliper, shorter carrier). Run them behind either white or solver wheels. My car is amulett and it is sexy.

Yellow or Orange would look really good on a black car.

I went with red, I like the way it looks. Did the rears with G2 caliper paint. It has held up great and looks almost as good as the powder coated front ones.

Silver. Keep it fresh looking and hides brake dust better. I coat all my discs in super high temp manifold paint too. Pads cut through the paint after a few dabs of the brakes and makes them look brand spankers.

Any prep-work like degreasing? I hear Wurth SBS is good for this as well.

I used a power drill and wire brush to cut through any rust, dirt or grime first. If they are heavily soiled you can use some wheel cleaner acid followed by some hot water to rinse it. Let it dry then coat the entire disc. I also coat the callipers with it. So easy to do if you paint the lot. Anything you don't want dusted with paint can be masked. I haven't had any issues with it flaking with a pressure washer either. It dries pretty quick due to the type of paint and easy to touch up. I even blow the inside of the tail pipes with the stuff after cleaning them too. Makes a huge improvement on appearance.

The VMR rims that I have show quite a bit of the caliper, and on the silver car I like the red..

The G2 paint comes with an aerosol brake cleaner that worded really well in cleaning off all of the crap before painting. It brushes on, but dries to a smooth hard finish. I did mine off the car as I was changing the brake lines as well, but it can be done on the car. The fronts are powder coated and the rears are done with G2.

Another option for colors are some custom mix ones from G2, it's pricier at $99 a kit, but it would be something different. Maybe something like a Garnet Red, or Gray Metallic on a black car.

I can't speak for the Brembo's, but it is really close to the red they use on the Stoptech. Unless they are right next to each other, you can't tell. And even when they are, it is very minor. I was pleased with the color match.

I could probably crop the original pic to get a bit closer on one of the front and rear if you are interested.

heres a pic of my car with the OZ, maybe black would look good, but im afraid of how the black would look over the texture of the caliper, might try to grind them smooth before painting.
would silver look funny, mixing different shades of grey or metallic? hmm, wonder about bronze

red could have a nice offset, would go with the tail lights and the subleties of the S line badge and red "OZ racing" on the center caps

heres a pic of the SSRs on my old URS6 with big reds, they are getting refinished in April I hope, not the greatest pictures

Here is a closer shot (not the best quality, used my cheap point and shoot), but the G2 goes on very thick and hardens to a very smooth, shiny finish. Other than cleaning, I did nothing else to the rear calipers before painting. I probably sound like a sales rep, but I had tried spray paint on another car, and this stuff really works well.

yeah those look great, did you use the brush that comes with the kit? how does that paint do with the texture of the metal caliper? red seems to mask it better than black does, black really shows it in the light, light reflections contrast dark paint and shadow.
think 1 kit would paint s4 front calipers and stock rear calipers? not gonna bother with brackets, cant see them right?

Yep, I used the brush that comes with the kit.... it was just one of those cheap flux brushes. The brush marks disappear as it hardens. I only did the back with the brackets, and did multiple coats as I only had to do the back, but threw out a lot of it. So I think you can easily get both front and rear from a kit, and that's the way they advertise it. Even with the crummy pic, you can see it looks very similar to the powder coat finish, I think you'd be happy with their paint. Take a look at their site, you may find another color you like.

I did black calipers on my B6 S4 front brakes with a silver anti rattle clip. My car is silver and I thought silver on silver was blah. I did however do silver on my black B5 which is the color I'd choose for a black car again. IMO unless you have flashy brakes theres no point painting them a color that really stands out drawing attention to your stock or stock looking brakes.

I'm thinking of going G2 silver on mine. The Pen-Ray brand brake cleaner that comes in the kit, works a lot better than other brands I've used (from general auto parts stores). I hear Wurth is good too.
Should I spray some silver paint over the G2 as well? Any tips?

J_L's alu spray calipers look great (what paint did you use?), but it appears they wore out after only 3 years...

Speaking of brakes, what's everybodys preferred method of stopping noise?
Mine squeal (especially when hot). I used CRC Brake Disc Quiet. Maybe I didn't lay it on thick enough?
Should I remove the old stuff (wire wheel dremel) and make it like this?

That is way to mutch on the pads, 1/3 of that would do.
I used Alu blast from VHT i think. Its still on there nice, its just debri and brakedust that is sticking on the surface. You are gonna get this with a calliper. either way.
The lighter coulor, the moore it shows, a darker coulor visa versa..
