6-Speed transmission problems (getting into gear)

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I went to leave for school today from my house. I let my car run for about a minute before putting it into gear. This is a 3.0, not sure if that matters or not just to let you guys know. So I put into reverse to back out no problem. Went to put it into 1st and it was extremely hard to get it into the gear. Same with second but not as much. But here's what gets me. I push in the clutch a first time, it's hard to get it into. I take it out of gear with the clutch still in position and then move it back to first with no problem. It does get better when the car warms up but the issue is still there. I haven't tried anything yet I just don't know what the issue is. Have any ideas? Thank you

Also to note that there is no noise coming from the car when I put it into gear. Or when I depress the clutch

    Try changing the fluid.

sounds like you're low on fluid. possibly leak at the slave cylinder

Sounds like a fluid issue, whether its a leaky slave or worn fluid. Since this just started happening, I'd say you may have issues with the slave leaking. Check your brake fluid and note its color/level. If its dark and low, its time for a flush and a slave replacement. If its clean and full, then the probably may just be with trans fluid, but thats unlikely I think. People have issues with the syncro for 1-2 and sometimes lose the ability to even use 1st gear.

Are your shifts from 2-3, 3-4, 4-5, and 5-6 ok? Is it mainly getting in and our of 1st that causes the problem?

if its not your a fluid or leakage issue, then your clutch pressure plate could be broken.

I'm thinking worn linkage parts could be the issue, along with bad motor mounts. But I wouldn't rule out low transmission fluid or time for fluid flush either. Time to have it up on a hoist and take a look at a few things.

Did you look at the link I posted? Have you checked if you're leaking any fluid from the clutch slave cylinder or master cylinder. First order of business should be bleeding that slave cylinder which is pretty simple and just like bleeding brakes.

Worn synchro's, you need a tranmission rebuild or buy a used one and put that in, common problem on 01E's which is likely what you have.

Are you 100% sure about this? Plenty of new buyers get burned all the time from dealers and sellers saying uncheckable stuff like this.

I personally believe this is a 1-2 synchro issue. Time to get used to second gear starts.

Thank you so much. Every body is saying it's my syncos an I need a transmission rebuild. I've noticed if I put the car in third gear first then I proceed to first it's like butter. Also if I hold it down for 2 seconds it's fine. I've also noticed is that is I go slow with it, it moves right into place, if I go fast like I usually go it's like hitting a brick wall then it slowly works it's way in. Any comments?

synchro, or in a really rare case (only seen it on mine so far) this happens clicky and feels like a 1st synchro gone bad.

what clutch and flywheel was installed? basically if they installed and aftermarket flywheel and clutch assembly that does not have the appropriate measurements your clutch will never fully disengage easily. the OEM clutch has self adjusting fingers which compensate for a decrease in friction disk thickness over time. aftermarket non adjustable clutches at times do not use this in their clutches. additionally a few MM high difference in flywheel height can cause issues.

i'd find out what clutch and flywheel package was installed. AFTER YOU BLEED THE CLUTCH HYDRAULIC SYSTEM
