    spark plug tube gasket

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Hey guys and gals, I recently replaced my valve cover gaskets and because I was leaking oil into the spark plug tubes, but there is still a small leak under hard acceleration. Does this sound like a pcv issue or the other gasket that's further down in the tubes?

    Thanks

Idk about the PCV issue, but I had to have my spark plug tubes replaced due to a leak as well.

    Wait the whole tube?

I may just put some RTV in there around the gasket area, maybe that'll stop it.

Are any of the gaskets on the coil packs bunched up? I recently took mine out and half of them have the gasket shove into one area where it melted or something and is stuck. Thinking about getting new ones.

Anyways, after taking the head cover off its completely possible for oil to leak in there from the coil packs.

Here is my report back. I shortly after making my previous post here applied RTV to the lower gasket rings in the tubes, as well as where the coil pack seals. No more leaks on the driver side! Yay! But now the passenger side is leaking. The rearmost coil on the passsenger side had at least an inch and a half of oil on it. So I RTVed that side, and hopefully the leak will be fixed over there now as well. I think the oil damaged my cyl 6 coil pack or plug though, as I have a miss under hard acceleration on cyl 6, even though there is no more oil over there. I ordered a new coil and plug, we'll see if that resolves the issue. Hopefully this info helps someone else as well.

    Here's some pictures too:

oil in the tubes, I cleaned out most of what I could.

This is the RTV I used.

Anyway you can explain how you did this in a bit more detail? I took have a leak on the driver side that is coming from the gasket below the valve cover gasket. I already replaced the valve cover ones (both) but the leaking is still happening.

First let your car cool. Then, take some degreaser and clean the lower part of the leaky tube. Now wipe the inside down with rubbing alcohol to get all of the solvent off, then put on a later glove and put high temp rtv on the end of your index finger and apply it into the leaky gasket. Wait at minimum a couple hours for it to set, then button everything back up.
