5f module failure due to the tune?!

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hi guys,

Here is a quick explanation to what have happened. My NAV and my media stopped working few months back, screen was always getting stuck on initialization loading bar. Blue tooth on the other hand would connect to the car and I could make phone calls and all, but just couldnt play music. So I took it in to the dealer so they scanned it and obviously saw that I have a tune. Code came up as 5F module failure and they are telling me that I have to have it replaced. They don’t know whether or not it will get covered by Audi Canada cause they have to submit a request to the head office. Did anything similar happen to any of you? Or did anyone 5f failed due to a tune? Is there a place where I can buy one since dealer price is 5600$?

    Thank you

P.S: Look at my signature for all the upgrades I have.

I assume you tried doing a reset of the MMI before you went to the dealer. It doesn't seem likely a tune would interfere with the "Information Electronics" module. And $5600 seems extraordinarily high. Have you been able to run a scan on your own to corroborate what the dealer is telling you?

if you have to buy it, ecs or ebay.de , I don't know about Canada Audi but I would dare a dealer tell me that a tune has something to do with making my nav control fuel air ratios and timing.

I don't know your laws up north eh sorry had to do it lol. But that would not fly down here in US. Your tune has nothing to do with the Nav module. You should fight it and win. Now the only thing with the TD1 they have to get the repair approved before they do the repair. But it should be covered no matter what unless you poured water or something silly like that on it. But I would fight it all the way. Nothing you did has any bearing on the nav unit. Its like saying your tune caused the window not to work. Id let it pay out first before you do anything yet.

That sounds absurd. I'd fight that without a doubt. I can't imagine a US dealer saying that with a straight face but perhaps the laws are different in Canada. I'd try to get them to specifically spell out how you tune flogged the MMI. See how creative they get.

lol, it will be covered. It would be like having a tail light fail and blaming the tune.

Yes Ive tried hard resetting... Its at the dealer atm and I would definitely try scanning myself (have to get a cable first) before letting dealer do any repairs.

And yes I agree with everyone about this! I cant find anything on the internet saying that tune could cause 5f to fail. Not even a thread where someone had the same issue as I have. Also one more thing to mention is when I do hard reset hear a clicking noise coming from between shifter and a heat control. Its sounds almost like a bad CD wont load...

Great, and let us know if it turns out that the hard drive was indeed the culprit.

Are you dealing with Royal Oak or Glenmore?
