Parking Break malfunction and Airbag light

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Car is a B8 '10 S4:

Over the weekend I was driving down the highway when my car dash beeped and i recieved both a Parking Brake malfunction and Airbag warning light. I was able to scan and clear the codes, scan showed as a short on the drivers side seatbelt latch (short to ground) and occupancy sensor malfunction (intermitten) in the seat bottom.

Searching the interwebz i find that it seems to be a common issue. The audizine, AR, and other audi related formums indicate its one of a few things:

    - The plug underneath the seat that plugs into the occupancy sensor
    - Code indicates that the safety belt latch has a short (could be related to occupancy sensor?)
    - seat occupancy sensor/airbag not working ($1100 part)
    - airbag control module ($1100 part)
this one threw me a bit:
    - MAF sensor malfunction?? (car does have an odd idle sometimes) $450-600 dollar part

I can post detailed scan's later when i am home.

Has anyone ever experienced this? What was the fix? I have an appointment for friday but i'm nervous about the out of pocket expenses i may incur here. Car is out of warranty, 57k miles. Any thoughts?

oh my i just realized i used break instead of brake in the title of this thread. i swear i'm not new here!!!

well for the seat belt buckle. Does it plug into the occupancy sensor/module. Or does it have its own harness and connector that connects to the cars harness. I would unplug the seat belt buckle sensor and see if you get another code and the short to ground goes away. You should get an open code. If that happens the buckle switch is bad. As far as the occupancy sensor. I would disconnect and reconnect the harness connector a few times and clear the codes and see if it comes back. Airbag wiring is super sensitive, the resistance matters down to .x of an ohm. most of the time airbag codes are unwanted resistance in the connectors of the system.

good points, i'll try disconnecting the seatbelt buckle and plug underneath the seat for the occupancy sensor and see if it triggers any open circut codes. i always knew airbag wiring was sensitive, i just hope i'm not walking into a massive headache here.

Do you have any mods...control arms can cause a problem if they damage the wires in the wheel well. (happened to me)

Parking brake warning comes on with Airbag warning just to get your attention, Since the parking brake warning is louder and flashes at your. Alu Kruez install should not have caused EPB warning.

Also had ALU kreuz. Should be unrelated. Check the wires above the wheel well. I had the same errors when my control arms chewed through the wires. Hmm

    Also what were the codes?

I'll have them check the wheel well wiring on Friday once it goes in.
I also had a airbag occupancy sensor code in a previous scan after clearing it once, i'll try to look for that also.

no modifications to anything safety related.

car went in this morning, they seem to think i have a CPO warranty. the car did have the warranty but i was unable to transfer it, so we will see what happens. I did get a nice '15 A6 TDI S-Line Loaner. Wow... i really like and am impressed with the TDI, its rather quick.

Update: Dealer called and indicates that the drivers side seatbelt latch needs to be replaced. $340 parts and labor. I called AOA to see if they would good will it. I guess i have the A6 TDI for the weekend, things could be worse.
He also indicated the battery is bad, $405 parts and labor to replace. I think i'll just buy it aftermarket and code the battery in with my own Vag Com. Save the $150.

    same procedure as the A8
our cars have a separate battery control module so you have to code the battery serial number into the module with a ross tech cable

My car (B8 S4 with DSG) just got hit tonight on the passenger side engine and wheel area, when some jackass ran a red light. My airbag light and parking light are on now. Car got towed.

His airbags went off since he T boned me. Mine didn't. Wondered if it was a faulty airbag. Now I need to find a thorough body shop.
