Question 2009 Q7 Bose MMI issues, no display, no illumination, no music, no navigation - HELP!

    Hello All,

I own a 2009 Q7 Premier Plus line with the Bose package. Comes with Navigation, SiriusXM, AM/FM, Ipod connection.

3 days ago, the sound got really static and then the MMI system turn off, screen went blank and then came back on a few minutes later. The next day, the MMI system didn't turn on at all. The Audi MMI logo comes up but then the screen goes blank a few seconds after.

I know that we have not spilled anything on the MMI controls (we only use the side bottle holders on the doors).

I've tried resetting/rebooting the unit by pressing SETUP, BIG CENTER KNOB and TOP RIGHT BUTTON at the same time. It looks like it resets/reboots as the Audi MMI screen shows up but then again goes blank a few seconds after.

Does anyone have any ideas what this maybe? Other google searches say its the amplifier but no one has definitively said they had it replaced or repair. Any help is appreciated!

    Thanks,
    Pat

a buddy of mine had something similar happen in his Q7 and it ended up being something to do with a cable in the center console or perhaps beneath the drivers seat. sorry to be so vague but thats my recollection from several years ago.

thanks for the reply sickspeed. if it's possible and time permitting, do you mind asking your buddy what he did? did he replace a cable or was it just loose? and location of the cable. again, thanks for the reply.

im pretty sure he had the dealer replace the cable because it was somehow pinched or otherwise damaged by the seat or console mount. but ill see if i can get a hold of him.

This is rather common when a device on MOST bus fails and does not pass a fiber optic signal around the MMI system. One device failure means all systems down. You can do a Ring Test via VCDS. Also, the first and easiest to check is the voice/BT module under the seat. You will a MOST ring break tester (Audi part, or can pick up on eBay cheap). You need to unplug the fiber optic line and plug in ring break tester to close the loop. See the the MMI comes up. If not go, the 2nd most common to fail is the BOSE amp in the rear quarter panel (pain to get out). Amp tends to get water from clogged sunroof drains. The area of the amp that floods is around the fiber optic connection.
