I am now looking to replace my worn shocks and struts. At least the tears right now. I currently have the sport(red) suspension and was wondering how the bilstein or koni sport shock compair. Or if the factory audi shocks are really worth the money they want for them.

There are a ton of threads with the suspension. Read them over and find out what best suites you.

I have yet to find anything on the sport series without someone running different springs or coil overs. I want to keep my audi sport springs. That's why I posted my own question.

It's advised to get spring with the after market shocks. Not only will it level the car out with it lowering the car but, don't quote me, after market spring with have the proper spring rate/specs for those shocks.

I just did my shocks and springs two weeks ago. I have the Blistein Sports with Eibach springs and I am very pleased with it. In my case all I wanted was to get the closest to OEM feel with just a little low and that combination worked great with me.

Let me add, if the stock springs don't fully extend the after market shock when the vehicle is on the ground then you can run stock springs. It just still a better idea to run a spring/ shock combo.

Bilstein makes replacement shocks that are meant for the OEM sport springs but offer a firmer, more controlled ride. I believe they're the B6 HD series. Their B8 Sport series is designed for lowered ride heights. Also, their B4 Twintube series is straight up OEM replacements. All this info is from their website.

Some people have reported the Bilstein HD shocks to be too firm, but ride comfort is a VERY subjective thing so too firm for someone might be just fine for you.

Also you don't NEED to replace springs when you do the shocks. Thats ridiculous to say. That said, springs do wear out over time (much slower than shocks though) so eventually they will need replacing even if they aren't broken.

I'm running the b8 bilstein shocks with h&r and the ride quality is oem or better it's stiffer and handles better, but it's not a difference on the freeway that anyone can tell unless I told them my springs and shocks were changed from the last time there were in the car.

I have some Bilsteins I picked up for a good deal---new--the kid won them at a local carshow. I think theyre the sport--I was planning on using them with the sport springs I already have.
How much more of a drop would the aftermarket springs get me over the OEM sport springs?
I would like to go just a touch lower than the sport--but not too low as I do spend a ton of time in the mtns in the winter. Perhaps I should have gotten coilovers, but I didnt want to drop the big $$ on a decent set. I didnt want to get a low line set for $399 or whatever--especially when Bilsteins were avail at $400 for the set.

It depends on what springs you get, but the drop is generally around 1" or so from OEM Sport height or 1.5-2" from OEM non-sport height.

Uhh that would be a problem for me. Anything lower than sport I would not be able to get in or out of my driveway.
