Just got done installing a directed 4x10 remte start in my 2009 A4 non push to start automatic. Just thought I would share
how easy it is done (and getting thru the wrong information on the directed wiring diagram)
Things you will need:
3 1amp diodes radio shak part no. 276-1101
8mm and 10mm socket and extensions
8mm triple square bit
electrical tape
transponder key (a big fob with battery removed or better yet the plastic emergency key, if you don't have one they are $64 for key and $135 to program to car at dealership.
soldering gun
some extra wire for wrapping key and extending relay wires
standard 4 pin bosch relay and optional relay holder with wires
directed 4x10 starter module
xkloader2 to program module
first thing you will want to do is hook up module to computer and select year model you if you want to use factory key fob to 3x lock start you will notice that the 2009-2012 the option is greyed out I have no idea why..i asked but since im not a dealer or installer I get no reply, so the option comes back if you select the 2013 model year which is the one I chose, since I looked at the wiring and its exactly the same as 09-12 You can set all your options here as well only thing I changed is runtime was 12min I set to 25min.
once you get that done you can move to disassembling the lower panel and key port you will have to remove 4 8mm screws from lower panel one on side in the fuse box area and other 3 along the bottom. once the panel is removed unclip the courtesy light wire and the obd2 port.
next move up to the top of steering column and remove the panel, under speedo cluster once pulled back you will see a 8mm triple square bolt that needs to be removed
a long extension is needed. next remove the 8mm bolt holding keyport trim. there is another 8mm behind that trim that needs to be removed, and finally a 10mm bolt from underneath this will allow you to remove black metal brace and allow key port to drop down
once it is down test the grey and yellow wire with multi meter..it should be 0 volts ignition off 0 volts ignition on, if so continue
Twist all 3 (-) sides of diodes together and solder them to the light blue/black wire pin #13 on modules black 16 pin connector. (directed has wrong color wire here in diagram they list it as green/black.. its not)
connect other end of one diode to the ign switch grey/blue wire
connect other end of one diode to the ign switch black/red wire
connect other end of one diode to the ign switch black wire
now wire relay: pin 85 of relay goes to red white pin #9 on the modules 18pin connector (if using the relay holder step this wire down to smaller guage wire to make connecting easier)
pin 87 and 86 tie together and run to 12v I use pin 16 of the obd2 connector to get all my power
pin 30 goes to grey and yellow of ign switch. (if using the relay holder step this wire down to smaller guage wire to make connecting easier).
the module will come with a 2 pin safety switch you will need to cut switch off and use this wire for your rf loop (key wrap).
I cut a network cable up and used one strand of the wire to wrap key 6x and tape...other end wrap ignition switch 6x near the front or you wont be able to put it back in where it goes due to the bulk. once wrap is done extend wire with the cut off 2 pin connector from earlier.
after this you will see going up the steering column a set of twisted pair wires this is your can bus directed says get them from kick panel but access to them here is easier and youre already in the area doing ign wires..so connect the 0range/green pin 7 of modules( black connector) to orange/green car wire, and orange/brown pin 8 of modules (black connector) to cars orange brown wire.
Next move to brake switch remove the 20 torx screw holding the air duct near brake pedal and twist sensor out of duct. air duct removes easily after this. connect modules green/red wire pin 14 (black connector) to pin 3 on brake pedal 4 pin harness (only 3 wires in connector so its middle one)
next wire up power and ground to module 12 pin plug again you can take power from obd2 pin 16, and ground from pin 4 (brown) on obd2
another thing the instructions tell you is to wire safety over ride switch to pin 4 on modules (white 18 pin) connector but you will notice that pin 4 there is no wire! what I did is unpin a wire that I wasn't using (there is 17 unsued) and push it into pin 4 position. then run to one side of switch we cut...other side of switch to ground.
wiring is complete. this whole thing may take you an hour depending on how good you are make sure to solder all connections and tape real good.
now plug in the black 16pin harness to module..plug in white 18 pin harness to module and plug in 2 pin harness to module. (all these plug in on same side of harness)
next plug in 12 pin power harness.
you should get a red light on unit once you do press the unlock button on factory remote. then insert key in the igniton push key in one click to turn ign on ..don't start
take key out and you should see a green light come on and go out..key is programmed. shut door and push lock 3x to test, if car comes on and starts let run for 30 sec and 3x lock to shut down this programs tach.
This is really one of the easiest remote starts I have done in a while. you will be able to lock and unlock doors while running with factory fob which is cool. it remembers last key in ign too so heated seats/heater settings will be the same as last time you shut it off. one thing I did notice is sat radio gets changed to media/aux every time remote started. but hey how hard is it to get in and hit SAT button.
hope this helps some people I have a bunch of pictures if anyone needs em. or I may edit this post with a video and pictures.
this site did help me out a lot altho info is for different model directed module, I found some of the pictures confusing but the ones about disassembly are awesome not sure if im allowd to link but here it is thank you to original author! http://12vsupport.blogspot.com/2013/...-with-rsr.html
