Engine Swap: 2002 Audi A4 B6 1.8T Quattro REPLACEMENT QUESTIONS

Hey guys, I have a 2002 Audi A4 B6 1.8t Quattro Automatic Transmission that needs a new engine. The engine code on the car is AMB. Is there any possible way to put a ATW engine in this car. The ATW engine I'm looking at is from a 1.8T B5 Automatic Transmission Quattro. I know the location of the water pump varies sometimes, is that going to affect this? I appreciate any advice you have. Thank you!

no, it's a completely different block (058 vs 06A). You might be able to get away with an AWM, but definitely not an ATW.

I've been back and forth with LKQ (a large used part company), and they are positive that an 1.8t ATW will fit into a 2002 1.8t A4 Quattro. Are they just full of crap or am I missing something? How can the block be different if they're both 1.8t's? Pardon my ignorance. I'm incredibly new to this kind of thing.

the 97-00 1.8T A4's (AEB, ATW) use the 058 block. The 01-05 1.8T A4's (AWM, AMB) use the 06A block, which is significantly different (has an internal water pump, among other differences -- I'd have to google for all them) and not interchangeable. If LKQ is telling you that an ATW short block/engine will work (without significant additional effort), then they are incorrect.

However, to complicate things, the head from the ATW is interchangeable/usable, since it is a small port (unlike the AEB), just like the AWM and AMB. That may be where the confusion is coming from.
