Cooling fans run when cold start

    Hey everyone.

My cooling fans started running when I first start the car about 6 weeks ago. I read up about this and replaced my green coolant sensor.
The problem went away for a few weeks. Now last week it started again. Could it be possible that the new sensor went bad already? What else could be causing this?
When I changed the sensor I did a scan and didn't find any codes I guess I will check again tonight.

Just confirming you are getting out and seeing that your fan is running and not just hearing the SAI pump running at start-up. Does the fan run after you shut off the car?

Yeah its the fans not the SAI pump. And the fans do not run after I shut off the car, its too cold for that right now.

Check for codes, mine through the Engine Temp Too Low with no CEL. Replaced the rear coolant temp sensor and was good to go

If there are any cooling system performance DTCs stored, the rad fan will run on high speed at cold engine start. Also check inside the ECU box and make sure there is NO water inside the ECU box.

Is your AC on by chance? The fans will turn on with the AC so put it in recirc mode and see if this stops it.

I know what he is experiencing, recent thread from a couple weeks ago had same issue but was a different cooling system issue, I think he just cleared his and he was good to go. The fans run for about 5 minutes then turn off. Only start on cold on High. Its a distant fan sound, like you can tell it isn't your AC.

Here's a lot of info that should help you better understand how the cooling system functions. Clicky click Be sure to click on the link in post #5 of the thread. that will lead you to more info. If you still have questions post back in this thread and I will see what I can do to answer them.

Thank you all, especially old guy. That link was very helpful. I ran a scan this morning before starting the car and this is what I got:

17704 - Error in Mapped Cooling System (check Temp-Sensor and Thermostat)
    P1296 - 008 -

I cleared the code and started the car up, no cooling fans running at start.

I feel as I should mention that in one of the other threads the OP stated they felt their engine took too long to warm up.
I am wondering if this is normal:

Cold start after sitting overnight inside my garage. Ambient temp around 28°F. I drive about 1.5 miles to the highway, and about 18 miles on the highway to work. Avg speed 65mph on the highway. 25 minutes total drive time. When I arrived at work, the temp gauge was right at the first white line. Once fully warmed up the gauge sits right in the middle (12:00).
I normally turn my heat on when I start driving but don't actually feel hot air coming out until about 10 minutes into my journey.

I've already replaced the green sensor, what's next? lower CTS and then thermostat?

    You need a new thermostat.

Just wanted to update and close this out. I replaced my thermostat with the ECS kit this past weekend. Also replaced the grey lower CTS and now engine warms up very quickly! It was cold, 13F this morning! and heat blows HOT! I used to have the heat set on "HI" all the time but I had to turn it way down as it was too hot. Thank you for everyone's help!
