    B8.5 S4 - nooks and crannies

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
OK this is a thread to say what WILL FIT in our nooks and crannies in the B8.5.

Specifically, the SUNGLASSES HOLDER and the ASH TRAY with the 12v socket.

I have found NOTHING that will fit the 12v socket and still allow the lid to close other than the stock cigarette lighter. I have tried various little 12v recharging flashlights, USB chargers, etc. Is smoking really that huge in Germany that they had to engineer this ash tray and 12v lighter cubby rather than say make us a cubby for our cell phones in it's place?

For the Sunglasses Holder, my Ray-Ban Aviator Wrap glasses will NOT fit but my el-cheapo aviators will...also my regular RX glasses for when I don't have the contacts on. What do you all fit in there? Will a set of NORMAL STYLE Ray-Ban Aviators fit?

Not even like a pen or anything? I mean I know how you feel...right now my Ray Bans are in the center console by themselves so nothing scratches the lens.

I have a fat face so can't fit Wayfarers comfortably :(

I'll look for that charger...their website only has ones that have a cord coming off the top which is weird.

I think I read somewhere that the cig lighter is only good for that specific purpose. Otherwise gotta use the one in the center console.

My Ray-Bans fit up top, I don't smoke, nor do I charge anything in the car so I couldn't care less about the ash tray and cigarette lighter, and my phone fits perfectly in the compartment to the left of the center console cup holder(s).

Charging is only available with ignition on. My old BMW 2000 528 had cigarette lighter socket that was live at all times. That was handy. However there was no center console, that was not great. Storage in s4 is much better. Phone fits in area next to cup holder. Sunglass holder is pretty much useless to me as my Ray bans do not fit. They reside in door pocket as I have the slip in case for them

I have found removing the ash tray itself gives me a bit more space in that compartment. I use it to keep my parking swipe card.

The ashtray is just enough room for me to keep by keyfob for my apartment complex & gate. As for the sunglasses, mine fit... Barely (Thin, low-profile RayBans, but I don't remember the RB#) .

I leave my radar plugged into the cig lighter. I know, I need to hardwire, but just haven't had time. Naturally, you can't button everything up and close it with it plugged in but whatchagonnado, ya know?

I keep my mailbox and house keys in the cig lighter compartment and a microfiber sunglass case/cleaner in the sunglasses thing up top. I take that out for cleaning or if I take my sunglasses out on the golf course or something and I want protection for them. My sunglasses stay in the long pocket in the center console by my side normally.

I have a very slim case on my iPhone 5, and I open the door to the Ashtray, and my phone sits perfectly in that spot. I've used it daily for a long time now. Without the slim case there's a little bit of play, but I release the door and use the tension to hold it in place when I didn't have the case.

I keep all of my loose change in a microfiber sun glass bag, which is stored under the arm rest in that compartment. That way, its neat, tidy and you cant hear any change clanking around. My wallet and iPhone 6 fit parallel perfectly in that spot to the left of the cup holders.

Oakley Holbrook SW edition, Oakley Two Face fits in the sunglasses storage, used verizon car charger in cig lighter, used short usb charger in cig lighter, and use ashtray for change. Not sure if everyone has this, but my ashtray is lined with a 5mm think foam material that stops the change from rattling around. I use the slot next to the cup holder for my phone.

It closes on it's own as smooth as the first day I had the car, but I have noticed that when opening, it's not as smooth as it use to be. Over time and daily use, it tends to not open as smoothly, which sounds like plastic rubbing, or the gears need lubricating. I'm going to pull it out and investigate this week. :nohomo:

The only sunglasses I have found that fit up top, of the 3-4 I've tried) are the Oakley Whisker:
    http://www.oakley.com/en/whisker/product/W0OO4020

For the ashtray I put my radar/laser controls there:

Oh, And I installed the under seat "storage units." Those are about fucking worthless, but the serve as a trashcan for me.

I've got cash rolled up in the cig 12v for parking emergencies (i usually don't carry cash on me) and the ash tray is for change to toss at homeless to keep them at bay.

Center console is for dedicated charger setup with two USB chargers so I can better accommodate my friends. I plan on ripping up a induction charger to put in the center console so that i can set my phone down and charge without having to connect. Just never have the time.

As for my sun-glasses I keep them on while driving, when I leave the vehicle they stay on, for protecting my eyes. Why would you leave them in the vehicle? They don't do much good there.
