    XM radio cutting out

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Getting a free XM trial right now, but it keeps cutting out.

Like no sound. I've had xm in plenty of previous cars and realize you can lose signal when you're in the mountains, tight downtown tall buildings etc.

The sound is fading even when out in the open, with nothing seemingly blocking the satellites.

Wtf? Of course my warranty expired 2.5 months ago...

As of late, ours has be cutting out when turning and over some bumps. I'm going to have it checked soon at the dealer. Our is acting like a loose connection from the Sat unit or Ant.

My xm radio cuts out at the same couple spots every day on my commute. Something about a dead spot between satellite coverage I think.

Mine used to do it occasionally and it has since gotten worse but it is consistent. What I can't figure out is why my father's RS6 has a better antenna and signal strength than my car. It never has outages while driving and works in my garage where my car doesn't. The last time I brought it up to and SA, his response was "yea they have different antennas."

I experience the same. I'm not even around tall buildings or trees and it will cut out, but at least its in the same spots every time.

I'm now debating on just getting Tune2Air and using my iphone. Price to increase data plan or cost of monthly XM subscription.

I never had an issue like this in previous audis or other cars with Sirius/XM. The reception in this car seems particularly bad. If it was still under warranty I'd ask the dealer to replace the module. Doesn't make me want to pay the cash to subscribe when it acts like this

What is the magic phrase to get them to do this? The last time I was in and complained about this issue, I was told that the "system wasn't throwing any codes" and that everything appeared fine as a result.

My Sirius will cut out when I use GPS on my phone. There are a bunch of frequency's on your phone and other devices that can inhibit the signal.

    +1...

Seems to be an Audi antenna issue. Have XM & Sirrus in other cars (GM, Ford, Lexus) and they seem to hold the signal very well. My S4 drops constantly.. Unless you are have 100% un-obstructed sky sight lines, satellite radio seems to be spotty in this car... was the main reason I dropped the service.

Same experience on mine. Somewhat frequent dropping out and reconnecting... even in wide open areas.

Mine drops intermittently, very similar to my wife's 2010 A4.

My friends Kia has never cut out before and works inside concrete parking garages... Maybe I should have bought a Kia.

Over the last month or so my Sirius radio has been cutting out a lot in open spaces, something has changed.

I used my XM for a few days until I decided to just buy more Itunes songs.

Had way too many cut-outs here for it to be worth it.

MonSoonHell has recently begun doing this as well. However, it seems to occur while listening to Howard Stern...which really pisses me off, as I need my Howard Stern. I can immediately switch to a different channel and it works like nothing happened in the first place. I switch it back to HS and it again it works fine. My commute does not have me next to any tall buildings. It occurs while on Astoria Blvd and also on the Whitestone Expressway heading towards the bridge/Cross Island Parkway.

Very annoying. As Audi is having recalls on their vehicles for other issues, perhaps we need to contact AOA and begin a campaign on fixing this issue (prior to a possible class action lawsuit occurring). Case (no pun intended) in point, check out, " www.oilconsumptionsettlement.com ".

I had no issues in previous Audi's with Sirius/XM. Just this car it seems. Very disappointing to hear that others are having the same issue. Not worth it to pay for the subscription if it's going to be dropping constantly.

I did try turning the wireless off on my phone and that made little to no difference...

    XM problems fixed

I had the same problems for about 40,000 miles on my 2013 from the time it was new. They (Denver dealer) tried to do everything with software, etc. but it did not help. Finally after about 3 times in the shop they ordered and replaced the antennae and the problem was solved. I ask the service manager about this and he said that Audi would not do this under warranty but that each dealer has some funds allocated by Audi for warranty work the local dealer can do. They used that for me.

Now if I can only get the stupid side assist to come on in cold weather all the time. It will be at the dealer in two weeks and I am hoping it is really cold in Denver at that time.

I had this fixed at McDonald Audi. You may have to talk to Chris Coxell who is the head service guy to get this taken care of. He is aware of my situation and hopefully let Audi know about the success of replacing the antennae.

Sirius cutout at Wadsworth and Alameda

I have the same problem with my 2011 Q5. I live close by and pass through this intersection probably 5-6 times per day. Sirius consistently cuts out on Alameda when approaching the west side of the traffic lights. Were you able to identify the problem?
