Post Audi Tire Pressure Monitoring B8.5

    Hey guys,

picked up an 2014 Audi A4 Progressiv line about a week ago, just a few questions. Does it come with Tire Pressure Monitoring (tpsm) or is it an optional package that you have to add on? I would just like to know, cause i feel like it should be standard on all cars.

Also, the car is a 8speed automatic, but when i feel like I'm coming to a stop the car feels like it is about to downshift buy it self, so when I'm braking it rev line would go down, then up, then down. any insight would be great

The transmission is behaving normally. The 8 speed is a tough and wonderful unit but like any automatic that has 7-9 gears, it can be a bit clunky in traffic. When you're breaking the transmission is going down through the gears so that if you step back on the gas, its ready to go. After a couple weeks of driving you should notice the transmission begins to learn your habits and will seem smoother.

The TPMS sensor is built into the wheel hub assembly on these cars, and not located in the tire valve like traditional assemblies are.

I have a 2014 A4 Allroad Progressiv and it does not have TPMS. I have also removed the wheels multiple times and never seen anything built into the hub that appeared to be a TPMS.

It's all electronic, using ABS sensors and comparing rolling resistance data between tires... or something like that. No physical sensor.

Perhaps it's not included in Canadian Audis?

It's built into the ABS sensor. If it senses one wheel rotating at a different speed than the other, it assumes that all things are equal and the tire pressure has decreased. (After checking safety systems like Traction Control, etc).

I don't know if TPMS is standard on all cars though, that's just how it works.

I have read threads about VCDS tuning, that talked about enabling TPMS on vehicles with certain ABS module codes. So this leads me to believe that not all ABS systems have the capability to manage the TPMS.

Correct- on b8 you should have PR code 1AT for ABS:

TPMS is standard in the US due to a federal requirement, but I'm not sure it would necessarily be included in non-US cars. My 2009 has the ability to store the current pressures to the TPMS system in the MMI's Car menu; check there in yours to see if it can give you any indication.

Audi TPMS implementation in Canada is not the same as the USA.

I don't think Audi is using the individual sensor system in any model anymore, but has instead moved on to the ABS based system. TPMS comes standard in the B8.5 here in Europe, and it's definitely ABS based with no separate sensors in the wheels anymore. The individual system was never an option here in Europe, not even in the early models. It was phased out when the B7 production ended.

The easiest way to see if your car has TPMS or not is go to the CAR menu in the MMI / Radio and see if there is an option for Tyre Pressure Monitoring. No point in removing the wheels / tyres or what not since the system is not visible. It compares wheel rotation speed information fed by the ABS sensors.

^^^these last two are correct. TPMS is not mandatory in Canada. It can be ordered as a stand-alone feature for $350.00 when you order a car. It does not come standard with the progressive package. It does operate through the ABS.....no separate module in the wheels.

Yea, i looked into the module under vehicle settings and there is no option for TPMS only oil servicing and what not , which is why i was inquiring. So i guess this would mean that id have to manually check the tire pressure occasionally right ? Would there be a way i could maybe add it on?
