ETKA App

Hello guys,
I just received my ETKA application. It didn't come with any manual, but a little How to guide to get it installed burned on the disk.
I installed it and I couldn't get it to work. It boots up and then crashes.
Has anyone with this system come across this issue I am having?
I am trying to install in on windows vista( Bit-32 recommended.) It will not work with 64-bit.

Any help is gladly appreciated.

Anyway it works just fine (7.4 Plus btw). But I'm running in a WinXP Virtual Machine on my Macbook Pro so my config is non-standard to say the least. I would suggest not bothering to get it to run in Vista and trying to get an XP VM up and running.

I had tried your "acquired" solution and it gave me a gift of reprogramming my laptop lol.

I'll see if I can dig up my old disks, but I still want to investigate why this PIA won't run.

You need a "crack" to get around the hardlock. A software group called new aspirin used to make a hardlock crack to bypass it, do a search on the interwebs to find it. Unfortunately mytouareg.info no longer has etka updates or the software to bypass the hardlock. I'm a parts guy at a vw dealer so I use the factory hardlock from lexcom, who makes ETKA and the Porsche catalog. As a dealer, we have to pay a monthly fee for it, per brand, so of course to save money, we had two of the parts computers running on a cracked version.

Nice info. I have contacted the person I got it from, so we'll see what happens.

Quick glance saw you don't have hard lock. Install hard lock, and try again

I was able to get the program to work after multiple tries. After updating it to current(Audi 1055 dated 1/09/2015 I think) it crashed.
Maybe it can't go up to that update.
I will try and re-install it from scratch and see what happens.

I got my version off the bay of pirates for free.50 and have had zero problems with it. Are you using XP? or something dumb like Vista?

Here's an update.
ETKA does run on Vista. I was able to update Audi to version 1041 last night.
As a side note,
Virtual box is up and running. Now, I will be installing xp soon as well.
Can someone tell me what the latest update is?

Also ETKA will lock you out of using the catalog if the updates fall too far behind. I can't remember how many days have to lapse though, might be 60, might be 90, I don't remember. My system checks for updates every time I load up so its always up to date.

Anyone knows how to update from Etka 7.3 to the current 7.4 plus database. As due to accidentally deleted my shortcut , I had to reinstall the 7.3 DVD. So I have the 7.3 software now but the up to date data files (1052)

You are not far behind the update like I am. I started at 950. I am working my way up there. I have no clue upgrading from 7.3 to 7.4. I am currently running 7.4 plus. I think you can get it on line somewhere from prior posts ........
I purchased mine from a friend before he went abroad.

I meant ELSA Win ...the computer manuals....not ETKA. The program is easy to use, lots of links but you have to search around to find the procedure needed. Are the ELSA procedures the same as what are produced in the Bentley manual? Any reason to get the Bentley manual if you have ELSA?

ETKA updates to current year.
Bently manual is always good to have to find what your looking for when your doing repairs. I have not played with elsa, so can't compare.

Caution: From end of March 2015 onwards, the internet services of Volkswagen AG will no longer support Windows XP.
Accordingly the next version of ETKA (7.5) will not support Windows XP.
It is recommended that you update all affected workstations to a more recent operating system such as Windows 7 or 8 as soon as possible.

The first statement does not concern most of us, since we cant connect to the online services anyhow (since you need licensed version to do so)
ETKA 7.5 will probably still be some time away, so time will tell if the XP users will be able to keep updating databases in offline mode (perhaps with some fix or crack) or if you need to reinstall on a different operating system.
I run ETKA on Windows 7 64-bit so no need for a secondary OS at all

I tried it on the 64 bit, but no luck.
I had it running on xp until my hard drive crashed on me.

Previously I only had it on my laptop with Win 7 32-bit for years and no issues.. I used hardlock then and no issues, now on my 64-bit stationary I have hasp drivers.
You could do like me, get a cheap laptop with Win 7 32-bit and only install car software (I got ETKA, Elsawin, VCDS and Revo software atm) that way you dont have to sacrifice 64-bit on your "primary PC" or bother with virtual OS.
