    2002 Audi a6 transmission nightmare!

Hello, i bought a 2002 audi a6 2.7t with the tiptronic from a guy a while back. it had a fluid change around 45,000 miles. i bought it at 146k. i was driving around and a rock rolled in front of my car while i was driving, i hit it and cracked the transmission pan. i did some research on it before changing the pan, fluid, filter, and gasket myself. When i got the car running again, it was in limp mode. i took it to my mechanic, one of the only guys i know in town good with audi, he tested it and he said i had some bad shift solenoids and was trying to charge $2000 for repairs. i didnt figure it was the solenoids since it ran fine before. so i took to removing and blowing out the valve body, as was instructed by another mechanic. after i reinstalled the valve body, i filled the car and took it off of the stands. Things got weird, limp mode was still there, also when the car is in park it is fine. Reverse is no longer a reverse gear, as in the car powers forward, neutral is also a drive gear, drive works as well, but i cannot even get it into Sport mode. the gear selector will not move down that far. i am thinking something is messing with the linkage? and more than likely tcm problems. any ideas? thanks in advance guys!!!

Just an partially educated guess, I'm certainly no expert... but:

Your linkage being off a gear I would think could cause that. Can you tell if the transmission is actually in gear when it's in park? (BUt the park claw is preventing the car from moving?) ie can you roll the car forward and back a little when it's in Park?
Is it possible to mess up which electrical connector goes to which valve? If the wrong valve was engaged I could see it causing that I suppose.
The other issue might be that the valve body got dented in the process which maybe would cause a valve to be stuck.

Wow, so here's an incredibly detailed audi self-study document on the 09L transmission which I'm pretty sure you have

Saved that guy for myself... in hopes I never need it...

If you look at page 60 in that document I linked to.... and if i'm reading it right...
If Clutch "D" is not engaging, the car will be in 3rd gear forward instead of reverse.
