Hi, first post. SIAP, but I just took home a 2.0t Quattro A6 with 20" sport wheels with summer tires which are fine for SoCal, but I'm moving to Pittsburgh in the next month or so and will need winter tires. Any suggestions? Tires currently installed are 255/35 R20

If you want winter tires try Bridgestone Blizzak or Dunlop SP Wintersport 3D tires.

I just did the same thing. Took my 20's off for the spring/summer/fall. Order 18" alzor wheels and blizzaks off tire rack so I'm fm good for all seasons.

I didn't go the route of using my 20's for winter. I just opted for 18's with winter tires so I can easily swap out the setup when the time is right. Honestly was actually cheaper than buying 20's from what I could tell...

Nice move... Plus, 18's are WAY more pothole friendly...

You can usually find a good deal buying wheels and tires used on here. I bought some with winter tires so I could have dedicated wheels/tires for winter and swap myself. That or buying a full set from tire track is always a good option. I grabbed 19s but only because I had to fit over the S6 calipers. I'd have gone 18 for potholes and more/cheaper options for tires when they need replacing but it wasn't an option.

Thanks everyone for the helpful info. I like the separate set of smaller wheels for winter idea. Just some quick checking on eBay brought up some cost effective sets. Thanks!

That color looks amazing. And being covered in snow looks even more awesome. Great pic.

The taller sidewall will also help with snow traction a bit. Pot holes also as previously mentioned. I've heard the NE has some really good ones.

Ok shameless plug here but I have a set of 19" OEM Audi wheels that I am selling. They came with my S6 and I live in NC so I don't really have a need for winter wheels. They are in great shape. Not sure what shipping would be but I could look into it if you are interested.

I had Blizzaks last year, they're the best aggressive snow tire. However, they're not very good in dry/wet weather. They super soft, cornering in dry weather felt sketchy at best. This year I moved to the Wintersports and they've much better.

    Blizzaks:
    Snow 10/10
    Wet/Dry 6/10

    Wintersports:
    Snow 9/10
    Wet/Dry 8/10

I have USB HEX+CAN VAG-COM cable, if you need mods let me know.

If the OP is going to drop in size, he should consider the Michelin Pilot Alpin PA4. They are the top rated winter tire on both Tire Rack and Consumer Reports.

I put those babies on with a set of dedicated wheels from tirerack and they are awesome. I live in NJ and we've had our fair share of storms this year. This past storm (March 5th) we had about 9 inches of snow and I had to go out in it and quattro with the Pilot Alpin PA4's made quick work of it. I drive 90 miles round trip ever day and in all conditions I have felt 1000 times better than the All Seasons I ran with last year.

FWIW...if the OP is running 20's now my opinion is dropping to 18's will change the feel of his drive to much. Go with the 19's and def the Pilot Alpin PA4's. The car will be a beast in the snow/ice and you will still retain driving dynamics you will enjoy on dry days. Plus they are low rolling resistance so mpg will pick up a bit.

I put dunlop wintersports on my oem 20 inch rims (s7) and I must say they've handled the snow this year extremely well. I highly recommend them.
