Am I being crazy to not consider Alzor? Or..

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I've been wanting some VMR or AG 18s for some time now, with my eye on 710s or M310s. Recently a local guy on craigslist has some hyper silver 18" alzor 349s for sale, and I'm kinda considering it but for some reason just feel like I won't be satisfied with that brand of wheel, thinking of design and quality and all. Am I being nuts here or does this make any sense..

The Alzor wheels get great feedback. They are also low pressure cast; same as OEM, Hartmann, etc...

    No reason not to buy.

I AM. I just need new tires and I'd rather not buy them for 17s hahah but alright alright maybe I'll go check these out. New toyo proxes too, but he wants $1100 for it all. I'd do no more than $800. I just feel like the vmrs and AGs are so smooth and perfect and these are a bit cheaper looking buut the price difference is significant.

Edit: one other concern, center caps. I would rather have Audi caps than alzor, if anyone knows if they can be swapped, chime in

I recently bought a set of Alzor 601s and while the finish isn't perfect, they look pretty damn good. You have to be actually looking to find any flaws, but for $460 shipped I'm a happy camper. From what I could research before I bought them, there are no center caps that are the exact dimensions, but a lot of people found Audi vinyl stickers the right size to cover the Alzor brand.
Will post pics later, seems I can't access photobucket from work anymore....

You can run ebay center caps. That is what I do with my VMR wheels. Just need to order proper size that fits.

Example on my car (old B5)

We've had customers run Alzor wheels up to over 150mph and said they are smooth as butter.

Don't let the low cost fool you. All the pricing on our products is dynamic, so the lower the cost is on our end the better deal we can offer you.

Wheels are low pressure cast which is the same process used to form OEM wheels. Alzor wheels are also VIA certified to meet JWL technical standards to ensure exceptional quality, performance and safety.

Thanks for chiming in Jason. Do you know what the deal with center caps is? I'm fine with eBay Audi caps, since the OEM ones are stupid expensive.

I believe its just in the way that OEM style caps are made. The snap ring that keeps them tight doesn't fit the wheel center bore or the Alzor center bore is slightly bigger. There have been some guys that have found an OEM cap that works for some style Alzor wheels but unfortunately there is no one center cap that fits with all Alzor wheels. I've even went in the back and messed around with what center caps we had in stock and a few Alzor wheels to see if I could find something that works. Unfortunately I was unsuccessful. Seems like everything was off just by a few millimeters either too big or too small.

No problem! If you search around on Google image under "Audi center cap stickers" you should have some hits and be able to find a link.

Just pick them up from ebay. They are cheap. You just need to measure accordingly for best fit because they sell a decent amount of different sizes and styles. I like how they make these wheels look OEM on my car.

I have the 349s and I have nothing but good things to say about them. I applied a healthy cost of wax before installing ng them and they still look brand new.

However I have yet to find Audi center cap on eBay to fit them. Local sticker shops either won't do a small job or won't print the Audi logo due to copyright issues. I'm still in the hunt

If you use a caliper gauge to tell me the ID of the wheel center (measure on outside of wheel. I would need the inner bore and the larger outside lip the face of the cap would seat), I can find them on ebay for you. I'm a pretty good ebay shopper

    And thanks!

Wheel designs differ. For example, vmr wheels have a lip inside for the clip for the cap to he able to lock. On my SSR wheels, the caps have a rubber o ring that holds it in place (tight squeeze). I would also want to know how the alzor wheels are designed. But I'll also take a look on ecs for you. There is just too many caps out there for there not to be one that fits razors close to if not perfect.

Same issue I had with my Team Dynamics wheels. I ended up using a set of B8 stock center caps without the metal o-ring. I used 4 to 5 tiny strips of 3M trim tape along the edge to hold them in place. As long as you clean wheel and caps (contact points) with alcohol before, the tape holds very well. No issues at all.

Look into Neuspeed RSe series wheels. there is a thread somewhere on google with a forever group buy on these rims.
The neuspeed RSe series is equivalent to the VMR 800 series in the sense that the barrel is flow formed and the face is low pressure cast.

Also, not all low pressure cast wheels have the same load rating so you cannot think OEM quality is the same as Alzor. Quality control, Testing, design and materials are different between the two. For example, BBS has many ch series rims. The OEM CH024, 028 and 029 have higher load ratings then the equivalent aftermarket CH0xx that BBS sells even though they are made the same way. There are also multiple ways to produce a low pressure cast part.

Just a suggestion when I had my Alzor wheels I went ahead and ordered Audi center caps. The center caps did not fit as many others have had issues. So I went ahead and peeled off the Alzor stickers on the Alzor caps. Then I took the Audi Center Caps and with a bench grinder I smoothed the back portion to fit on top of the Alzor Caps. Afterwords I used industrial adhesive to combine the Audi Center Cap to the Alzor Center Cap. Clamped both of the pieces and let it settle. Turned out well.

18X9 et 35 is like purfect fit.
    all comes down to tire.
i run 255/35/18 and it's square fit on rim, no stretch at all. rub like a mofo, but over time it chewed fender and i rolled it. so good now. mind you i'm on my 3rd set of fenders and slammed.
winter i run pf01 same specs on 245/40/18 nokian hakka 7. again a square fit. thick tire. i rub on full lock steering and rears on bumps. died down a lot. I used to run 245/40/18 lm60 and there was some stretch. so no rubbing at all.

    all depends on tire.

He said they're either 235/45 or 245/35 he can't remember off hand. I run about 24.5" ftg so I'm not *super* low, maybe this will be the perfect set up.

Nice, he said I could test fit if I liked since he has a lift, I'm just at sinter height so I wouldn't know for sure. 235 would be ideal then for a touch of stretch

Really depends on the tire brand, I had some 225 that were wider than another set of 235...
