    20x10.5 BBS CHR guys...tire questions....PSS 285/30/20

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Good morning, gents;

I recently put CHRs on my car, and the stock P-Zero tires with a stretch ride like absolute dog sh*t. Is the PSS in 285 any better? Also, I'm low low so I'm worried about rub. Perhaps it could be dialed it with more camber, but I don't want to go extreme. Any feedback would be appreciated....

    Thanks,
    Chris

275/30 or 285/30 will work. If you are super low I would go with the 275 and also run adjustable control arms to dial in the camber so the ride is somewhat better.

    the more beef the better

from the pictures I've seen of your car, you still have plenty of room for more tire.

but some detailed side angle shots would help determine what you got going on.

PSS are also very meaty compared to a lot of tires.

I have the same wheels and I'm lowered on H&R eo no rubbing with 285/30/20 PSS. I would love to go 295/30/20 but I'm afraid it might rub

I think it might rub on full steering lock but I would love to have 305.

Those 285's look so good. The sidewall profile is slightly less stretched, and the leading edge of the sidewall is a bit closer to the wheel, bit it still has a bit of gap (I like) and that somewhat rounded profile that accentuates a concave wheel. A bit larger TD too. Love it.

Why you gotta tease Doc? Your car is perfect! Sheesh! Hope you are well btw...

Chris, I'm sure the PSS are a TON better than the crappy Pirelli's. As you say you can always adj the camber if you need to. I'd do the PSS if I were you.

Yea, I'm sure I'll be sporting the CI-R when it arrives. I'm not looking forward to going Ti again, but you know I'll have to try them. Mine will also come with freshly painted gloss black rim guards. That should happen in the next couple of weeks.

Are you on H&R Street Sport Coilovers? This pic may just be the evidence i needed to pull the trigger on 285/30/20 vs getting the smaller 275/30/20

I'm on H&R OE springs but I'm planning on installing H&R Street Performance Coilovers once the winter is over.

I'm running 285/30/20 Michelin Pilot Sport AS3 on 20x10.5 Vossen CV5 square all around. I ran H&R OE springs for a year and had absolutely no rubbing at all big bumps fast...slow...no issues. But I had a bit of a fender gap at 27 1/2 FTG measurement that I just could not take anymore...and finally I pulled the trigger and went with a full coil over Bilstein B16 Ride Control setup with IRC module to bring her down to earth.....initially down to 26" FTG all around....rubbing experienced on small bumps...big bumps...hard turns...no good.....then raised and now sitting at 26 1/2 FTG all around and only really big bumps do I rub. So I'm happy with the setup and feel.

Thanks for your input. Do you think going with a 275/30/20 instead would have helped your problem at all or would you still go with 285/30/20 given the chance?

What offset on your Vossen? I have 20"x10.5" ET25 CH-R wrap on 275/30/20 PSS too. When I have my H&R OE spring, I have no issue at all. But after swap to H&R coilover, I have the big rubbing issue as well. So I have to raise it up a 1/2" but still rubbing once a while. The first pic is with OE spring and the second one is with coilover

275 vs 285 can 100% be rub vs no rub. If you were to do a 285 on a standard body 5 and drop it much, go with a V12 for a profile more conducive to not rubbing. Going forward, BBS is doing a 10" ET25 for the Audi fit. That way we are back around ET30, and can run a 275 and have hardly any stretch, and use small spacers if we choose.

You are rubbing because of your alignment setup. I would dial in a little more camber to fix that. I have no rubbing on mine at all currently with 275

Is it because RS5 has wider fender than S5? dun really want to have visible negative camber and eat up the tire

Correct. You can clearly see they are standing straight up. I actually prefer a good -2.0. I could care less if I lose a bit of tire life to ensure my fit is what I want.

You'd be surprised how much that would help. You'd basically be taking the top of the tire in 5-7mm. Not sure you need arms though. What you see above is -2.5 to -2.7 and it came naturally with low :)

Same setup on old A5sline. H&R coils 3mm rear spacer. Maybe slight rub over big dips. But basically none. 275 tire

^And with a V12 and that natural camber, you're gonna have next to no rub.

But after swap to H&R coilover, I have the big rubbing issue as well. So I have to raise it up a 1/2" but still rubbing once a while. The first pic is with OE spring and the second one is with coilover

My Vossens have a +30 offset.

    20x10.5 BBS CHR guys...tire questions....PSS 285/30/20

Well I'm sure by going with a shorter profile tire such as a 275/30/20 it would provide me just that much more clearance and probably less rubbing.....how much though is a mystery to me because I have yet to run that setup. When it's time for new tires I might have to try that option, trust me I am very curious as well.

Love it! The RS handles that fit very well. The A/S would not.

Going forward, BBS is doing a 10" ET25 for the Audi fit. That way we are back around ET30, and can run a 275 and have hardly any stretch, and use small spacers if we choose.
Is dis still gonna happen (bold text above)? I deliberate between wheel and tire size combos multiple times a day. It is a heavy burden to bear.
