    Permaplate Windhield protection plan

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Does anyone have this? Is it worth it? Does it make your windhshield look any different?

I just had my windshield replaced twice in 2 months and I'm pissed off.

The Audi dealership is offering me this plan for $634 for 5 years.

They put the coating on and if I get any chips or cracks during the next 5 years, they replace my windshield with factory glass for free. No deductible.

Without this plan replacing my windshield with factory glass would cost me another $500 due to my insurance deductible.

I have not heard of this product, but I sure do hate a pitted and/or cracked windshield. I have a couple of questions:

    1) Does "chips or cracks" include pitting on the windshield surface, i.e. the kind that kills your visibility when driving in the direction of the sun at dawn/dusk?
    2) When they replace your windshield do they apply the Permaplate product to the new one?
    3) Is there a limit to how many times you can have your windshield replaced? Like if you driving on the turnpike 100 miles per day, you will be racking up the battle damage and could conceivably have chips/cracks qualifying for replacement once per year.

    3) No limit. I can break one every month.

Like any protection plan, I guess there is money to be made from the dealership's standpoint. However, if you have the unfortunate luck of getting pits, chips and cracks, then seems like a decent package.

I usually get the smaller chips and cracks filled for 90.00 at a professional shop and not go through insurance.

I think it would depend on how much highway driving you will do. Since you have a $500 deductible, that might be a good reason to get the insurance. But you would actually need to replace the windshield twice to be ahead of the game. BTW, IMHO, there is nothing special about the OEM glass.

I've been considering something like this, but I'm concerned that it will lead to optical distortion. I've been quite unlucky with chips and had a few windshields replaced in the past. I'm on my second on the current car. However, my insurance fixes chips for free and as long as they are not in my line of sight, that's good enough. If I do have to replace my windshield again, it'll only cost me $100 for my deductible. I've recently discovered that lowering the comprehensive deductible, doesn't change my premium by much.

I have it. I'm not sure if they add anything to the glass, but mine chipped pretty easily from a small rock. I had less than 3k miles on my car when this happened. I got the protection plan for free but so far for me, it was nice to have since I didn't have to go through my insurance. Got my windshield replaced with OEM acoustic glass with no charge for me. I think I'm covered for 4 years after purchase. I'm currently at 14k miles and no issues yet.Thread to my cracked windshield

    Here is the site. http://permaplate.com/cms/index.php/...indshield.html

They do put something on. I think it's a good price for $634 for 5 years especially since I plan to keep the car.

I don't do much highway driving, but I'm OCD about chips and stuff like that.

Never heard of this, but I'd do it in a heart beat. I have safelite or capital come out twice a year to fix pits, chips, or cracks. need to call them again. Had my trucks windshield replaced 4 months ago and already got a damned chip.

I'm sure this stuff they apply to the windshield will not work.

That written, I did get it because the GM showed me the warranty and it even covers pitting not just chips or cracks. So yeah, at the end of my warranty I am having them put in a new windshield...actually they will be putting in a new one whenever I feel like I see pitting. :D

Can't you get no deductible glass coverage for windshields through your insurance company? I have it, chips are filled for free, cracks will warrant a new windshield, also replaced for free. Not sure why you would not go this route. I have had 4 windshields replaced, and my insurance has not gone up because of this..

Same here ... replaced two windshields last year (one on my S4 and one on my wife's previous car, an A4 Avant) and no impact on my insurance. My comprehensive coverage includes full, no-deductible glass coverage. I even insisted on OEM glass for my S4 (since it was just over a year old at the time) and they obliged at no cost to me.

The plan is 5 years for $634.

    So its $635 \ 60 = $10.50 a month.

I'll call my insurance to see how much will it go up a month for it.

I just don't want to fight with them when I want oem and they insist on aftermarket.

In my experience, insurance companies don't fight you on dealer glass if you have automatic windshield wipers.

Sorry, I didn't really eleborate. I was referring to the cost of the insurance from lowering the deductible could offset what the warranty might be worth.

    Roughly 20$ a month? That's about 1200 in 5 years compared to 634.
Still insurance does cover ALL glass.

I have $250 for comprehensive deductible and no Deductible for glass. I don't think I have an option not to have glass coverage? I pay less than $90 a month for 2 cars, I can't imagine that it would be much lower.. I'm guessing glass coverage is $2 a month on my plan.

In NY, after the car is 2 years old, they do not have to supply dealer glass.

A Geico claim online had the Safelite guy out to my house in a few days. $100 for a new windshield. No impact to premiums.

Also, when I was filling out the form online, I asked for tinted, rain sensing and noise canceling. I'm not sure that my 2012 OEM windshield had the noise canceling feature. Rain seems quieter. Is it just the placebo effect?

    Ooo...
Yea it really depends. I pay 180 monthly on a 0$ deductible for comprehensive with full glass. If I opt out 500 it would go down to about ~160. OP would have to figure out what would work best for him.
