    Broke Fuel Line Clips

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I was attempting to change my fuel filter today, when I got to the last connector to disconnect the clips broke out of it. So now I need a new line I'm assuming from the tank to the filter? The old filter is stuck on there for now because then sides of the clip broke off and there's still more to release on the inside. Stupid design Anywho, what I was wondering is, which line is it that I need? It's the line on back of the fuel filter towards the rear of the car that goes on the center of the filter. ANYONE?r

My line is the other one, not the one as that guy. Do you know where it goes? Is it there return back to the tank? http://www.ecstuning.com/Audi-B6_A4-...ines/ES436448/

1 - Fuel supply pipe from fuel tank “VL”
    2 - Return pipe “RL”
    3 - Breather pipe “E”
4 - Supply pipe going to engine “MOTOR”

I think it's "RL" had to put the other connectors back on to drive it and didn't pay attention. Pretty sure about the RL though.

I couldn't for the life of me get that connector to come loose. I squeezed it and nothing. I assume that's what you had to do to that one, they were all tough to get loose

So that's what I need then, any idea of how I replace that whole line? I hope I don't have to remove much

For future reference: First rotate the connector 90° back and forth several times to make sure it isn't stuck. Next push the connector in toward the filter as hard as you can by hand before depressing the release tabs. Then depress the release tabs and pull back to disconnect the fitting.

Got gas all over me for nothing today and that return line wouldn't push in at all, even with all my twisting and whatnot.

Another tip: Pull the fuel pump fuse with the car at idle. That will drop most of the fuel pressure. Then depress the schrader valve at the back of the fuel rail and remove all of the remaining residual pressure. That should prevent you from getting a face full of fuel when you disconnect the fittings. It will also remove any pressure on the fittings and make then easier to remove.

Thanks Old Guy! Now I just have to wait til taxes come in and drive with this old one. Hate to change the subject of things but I have a question I'm sure you'll hopefully be able to address. I got and alignment about 2 weeks ago because my car had been pulling to the right for a while but recently got bad so got it fixed. Well now I hear like this low low low tones noise while driving in any gear like a strain on the drivetrain. Maybe my front tires got wore down so bad they're not the same diameter as the tears anymore causing that? And then today the ESP light came on as well, I would assume from what in hearing.

If the noise started just after the alignment the noise could be coming from cupped tires. Are your tires a directional tread? An inner/outer tread? If they are directional swap the fronts with the rears on the same side. If inner/out swap them right side/left side and see if the noise changes. I suspect the ESP light is something different. You can try cleaning the MAF sensor. A dirty MAF sensor can cause an ESP light.

I'm not 100% what they are, they're the tires that was on it when I bought it (plan on getting new tires soon) they are Firestone Precision Sports. So would the alignment I had need addressed when I got new tires? Definitely don't want them wearing down and still causing stress on the drivetrain. And hopefully it is a dirty MAF and not anything else.

If you examine the sidewall on the tires there will be notation if the tire has a directional tread (there will be an arrow showing the rotation direction) or an inner/outer configuration ( there will be an "outer" designation). If neither is present the tires can be mounted in either direction on either side of the car. What you want to do is change the tire positions on the car and see if it makes a difference in the road noise. The noise doesn't necessarily indicate a stress on the drive-train. It can simply be noise caused by uneven tire wear.

Edit: A quick search shows that the Firestone Precision Sport tire is a symmetric tread. Try rotating the tires from the left side to the right side of the car (reverse the rotation direction) and see if the noise changes.
