Hood release not working, how to get it open??

I recently got my car back from the body shop and discovered the hood won't open. The body shop is an hour away and the car is needing some oil, is it possible to open the hood if I can get at the latch? I tried removing the panel under the radiator and could really get up there, everything looked very concealed. Is this possible?

Happy path: the trunk-release cable has somehow come disconnected from the hood-release grip
Unhappy path: your trunk-release cable has come unhooked from the latch, or the latch is jammed. If that's the case just take it to a dealer because it's going to be a total PITA to fix. Bill the body shop after.

Back to the happy path: The hood release is hooked via a cable to the latch on the front. I would imagine this cable runs underneath the front wheel liner. If you can get some pliers on the cable and give it a good pull; you should release the hood.

Unfortunately, I can hear the latch functioning when i have someone else pull the release.. Something must not be lined up right.

That's not a good sign. If someone else pulls the hood release and you try to lift the hood, can you feel if it's caught in one area in particular other than the latch?

Take it back to the shop and have them resolve it.

I had this happen on my B6 S4 avant and the dealership (same ones who forgot to reattach the latch) spent north of 5 hours trying to get it open to no avail. In the end the buyer used a long socket to remove the latch from the hood through the grille but I dont think that is a possibility with our cars.

With the earlier Audi's (B5/B6/B7/C5), if the latch got jammed, you could manually release it using a massive long screwdriver from underneath the car. I think the B8 has too much in the way to allow for that. I would call the body shop, explain the situation, and ask how they want to resolve it.

Thanks for the help guys, contacted the shop and having it sorted out Monday. Luckily there is an Audi meet that night where the body shop is so my trip won't be a complete waste.

Does Valet mod restrict the hood from being opened? I know the trunk cant open. I did go out and check it because I was messing around in the glove box, but it is off and still won't open..

Does Valet mod restrict the hood from being opened? I know the trunk cant open. I did go out and check it because I was messing around in the glove box, but it is off and still won't open..

The reason I ask is because I had a flash done on the vehicle since, does the hood have any kind of valet disabling mechanism?

If you can hear the latch being pulled out at the latch when someone pulls the cable, try to press and realease on the hood around the latch area and sometime making the hood wiggle will make the latch release and pop up so you can open it and see whats going on. Does their feel like resistance on the cable and down the latch handle go back down when you let go. It might not be hooked up to the latch on the other side of the cable out at the latch.
