Decat and EGR removal options for 1.9TDI

Hello guys. I have an Audi A4 B6 1.9TDi AWX engine and I want to remove or block the EGR and remove the cat. I have some questions about which way to go. Regarding the EGR, I was planning to buy this EGR delete kit. I know there is the possibility of blocking the EGR with a plate, and somebody told me it is a better option because the engine will behave better when stopped, as the valve blocks the air from going into the engine. However, my EGR is leaking some oil. What would you recommend me to do?

Secondly, exhaust. I have a choice form buying a 2.5" downpipe t from the same guys who sell the EGR delete, for about £250, or to make a pipe to replace the catalytic converter, for somewhere around £40. Again, any pros and cons on which way to go?

Without EGR, the combustion peak temperatures will be a lot higher, increasing exhaust temp and heat stress to the exhaust valves, manifold and turbo. On the other hand, carbon fouling of the intake manifold will be eliminated. Unless the ECU has the DTC monitor for MAF range turned off, there will be a CEL due to the EGR being blocked off.

I don't have any advise on what cat delete method you choose, cheaper is usually preferred.

Quick removal of the EGR is to pull off the pipe connected to the solenoid disc that you can see even when your engine cover is in place, then block it with a small bolt. Also get yourself a map with the EGR turned off if you haven't already. Regards Decat i believe it isn't a safe option with these engines as the turbo requires the back pressure to slow, otherwise it will spin uncontrollably. Up to you in the end. Regards the oil leaking it is actually a cause of the PCV blowing oil through your turbo intercooler and then EGR so eliminate the PCV gases with an elephant mod and you will fix atleast 1 of your problems and save some engine parts in the process.

PS if your car is like mine and an '02 you will not get a CEL light

Regarding the decat, it shouldn't be a problem with turbo speed, as the variable geometry should prevent the turbo from spinning too fast.

The EGR is only open at low RPM, at full throttle or high rpm, the valve closes, only letting fresh air to go into the engine, so it is the same as not having an EGR, thus exhaust temperatures are the same.

For the decat I will choose the cheaper option, having a pipe made instead of buying one. However, for the EGR, I still don't have an answer, so the options are blocking the EGR, or completley removing it.

honestly the best option is just to pull the vacuum hose off the top of the EGR and plug it with a small bolt you will be ceasing its operation via this method and you wont get your hands dirty or spend a cent! leave the egr valve housing in place because it also encorporates your anti shudder valve with does help with shut down of the engine and will save you engine mounts.
