I just want to make 100 % sure though, Where would be the best place to get a reverse camera and what are all the items that i require?

I spoke with 3 different car electronics shops and they all tell me that apart from the camera, I need to purchase an interface which bumps the price up significantly. The interface is 3.5 times the cost of the camera ! This interface also allows for several other inputs but all i知 really interested in is adding a camera with dynamic lines.

    I have a 2010 S5 with the 3G MMI GPS.

Could anyone tell me the best way forward? I知 also keeping tabs on CarPlay systems but a lot of th current options seem to fall short on reliability.

    Cheers

I am sure if you retrofit with an OEM Camera, you will also have to acquire the proper module and related wiring. If you choose OEM, if you buy all the components new, it will be very expensive. You can try to buy them used but sometimes that is not a best option. I purchased an aftermarket camera on EBay that is built into a replacement trunk latch (just like the OEM one is). I'm running an aftermarket interface by XCar Link. I've had a few issues with it but it does work well a majority of the time. The solution you choose is going to be dependent on the MMI/Radio you have in your car. I am sort of waiting to see if anyone comes out with an Android tablet like RS Nav that offered quality and is reliable but otherwise, if I was to replace my backup camera setup, I'd probably look into one of the complete turnkey solutions from https://www.carsgadget.com/audi-camera

And since you are already in Australia, you might check out http://naviplus.com.au and see what they have to offer as well.

Thanks for the info...one thing I知 still a bit unsure about, is whether the reverse cam module and any car play module, are separate things?

For example, the Navi plus units that you refer to, offer a reverse camera as an option, which seems to imply that the unit is camera ready. Would this mean that an additional reverse cam specific module is not required ?

The Navi plus units seem to be great but on closer inspection, they are full of faults. Their local dealer/installer here, told me to steer clear of them because there has not been one single instance where a customer has not returned with issues. The software seems to need further refinement to iron out bugs and increase reliability.

As I have mentioned, I am running an XCar Link (purchased from UK but basically, pretty sure all of these units come from China). I have had some occasional issues with it such as it spasing out or going completely dark however, it works normally most of the time. Mines a few years old so it is just a basic video interface and my reverse camera is plugged into it. I believe the Naviplus adds navigation. Some of these units add a touch screen overlay but that may only be for the Navigation and not for the rest of your MMI interface controls. You have the ability to add a reverse camera. Generally a relay is installed and the reverse camera is wired to the reverse light wire so when you put your car in reverse, the reverse camera comes on. I don't believe that the NaviPlus units are too popular here in North America, mostly because of cost. I would probably head the advice of your local shop if he's had these negative experiences. Another option I mentioned would be the carsgadget.com. He had e-mailed me and swears his product is bullet proof. He should be able to sell you everything you need including the camera built into the trunk latch. He's in California I believe. Not sure about shipping costs or duty, etc.

Fuck Xcarlink. I sent mine back and they never refunded my money. I sent postal service so I was hosed. Still blame xcarlink cause I know they got it.

    UPDATE:
So the camera quit after about a month or so. I noticed the red light on the box never turned off. I think there was some wiring screwup in the box and it burned itself out.

After a long time due to my getting busy with life, I got back in contact and sent back the unit.
Eron sent me a new unit and it works great. This one turns off after a min. so I hope it solves the issue.

I'm dealing with how to reflash the unit because warning message is in Spanish. I'll update when I can, but Eron has been very responsive so the service has been really good.
I'm on a Mac, so maybe I have to format the SD card a different way to get it to read? I let it run for about 15-20 min and it never completed the reflash.
If anyone that has reflashed theirs can help me out, would appreciate it.

-the actual install is quite literally plugging in and tieing up a couple wires

    -non mmi cars-
no need to take out radio. Pull the trim plate around the screen, pull the bottom hvac unit (trim tools do the job), route wires and plug everything in.
    -swap in the camera latch
-route the video cable to the front
-tie in your camera power wire to the purple wire at the control box
    -done

    -PROBLEMS
-I had an issue where it tested fine, but no picture when I tried to install.
-Eron was very responsive in helping to troubleshoot
-It turned out to be a faulty Video cable, which I tested with another one, and works perfectly.

I bought the unit many months ago, but due to work travel, only got around to installing it now.
The picture is very clear and the guide lines move wiht the steering wheel, which is nice too.

All in all, a great addition for not a lot of money. No unnecessary splicing of wires, and if I want to go back to stock, simple plug n play.

It is time consuming only because of removal of trim pieces. Not difficult, just be patient.

Enron never said what needs to be done to make the APS+ graphical support to display on the back up camera image (overlay) when reversing on Audi B8 (A4, A5, Q5) prefacelift.

Still this was never sorted out, and no solution was provided.

The following is the configuration file of RS-1103M interface (release-20161122-RS-1103-EN2-ver2.3.1). Is there a parameter than needs to changed from the following in order to support the APS+ radar distance to display when reversing??

It is ridiculous that after so many years no solutions was found. It seems Chinese products dont have enough firmware support or enough research and development.
Ok Dynamic Lines work, but shouldnt you also provide a solution for the radar sensors to display when reversing on all audi B8 prefacelift too???? Why your tests were only based on facelift B8.5 technology??

This was discussed many times. Please provide APS+ graphical Support (radar distance) for prefacelift Audi B8.

    Positive:
    Good image, Dynamic Lines

    NEgative:
    1. No radar distance with APS+ support for Audi B8 prefacelift
    2. Line distance image cannot be adjusted. So if you follow just the back up camera display without looking at your side view mirrors you will definitely hit a car because outer car limits cannot be adjusted .

    Note:
Changing Can H & L to a different can group of T46s connector, I can get radar distance to display with APS+, however I loose the dynamic moving lines when turning steering wheel and also loose the distance lines.

I bought and installed a kit by Eron. Here's a few tips and updates on the kit.

Enhancements to the kit not specified previously:
    1. Kit no longer requires a fuse tap.
    2. Power is supplied from the A/C control module.
    3. The spacing of the exclamation mark has been fixed.
    4. The guidelines move when you turn the wheel.
    5. The interface module came with DIP switch 4 disabled (radar view of the car).

Things you'll need comprehensive list for AT transmission / non-MMI install:
    1. Trim removal kit.
    2. Standard metric toolset (preferably with some of the long ratchet arms or attachments for cordless power tools).
    3. A set of hook tools (makes removing the A/C control unit super easy). This also helps a bit when routing the cables under the door trim.
    4. Heat gun / hairdryer for softening the license plate frame adhesive tape.
    5. Patience with the trunk handle removal.
    6. Electrical tape / wire nuts. Wire stripper if you have it, otherwise just use a knife and be careful.

    Notes:
-If you don't have the metal trim / din removal keys for the MMI in the glove box; you can use a coat hangar. Straighten the ends and place at the outer edges (<----.........---->) of the box, push them straight in and then squeeze both hands together. Poof, that MMI will come straight out.
-Go slow with the trim removal and it takes a bit of extra strength than you may feel comfortable tugging.
-Pull firmly, but gradually with the hook tool on the A/C control module.
-When routing the wire to the trunk from the back seat, try poking the connector through one of the grilled slats in the trunk. I used some grasping forceps to grab the wire and route it up the trunk arm.
-When removing the emergency release trunk handle, put your hand behind the trunk trim and push the wired ball towards the right / passenger side of the car to release it from the guide. This step can suck if you are not patient when putting the trim back together.
-Use the trim tools to release the rubber glue on the trunk handle, don't pry too much because then it will be a PITA to remove. Just push it back into place and tilt it down a bit as you pull the guide bolts out.

Bought Kufatec rear view camera set, how should I connect it to permanent plus? I connected everything else, and now I know the wire comes in E6 with 5A fuse in the Luggage compartment. But I donエt understand from where should I take other wire, permanent plus.
