Engine sound, tube or speakers?

Just got my sepang s3 and it sounds like no other inline 4 I have ever heard. Is this a sound tube into the cabin that opens when on dynamic or is it fake sounds coming from the speakers?

It sounds great to me, just wondering.

Not related to speakers as I know of- It is a valve system- Which is why Milltek made a valve system exhaust to work with the existing Audi Drive select features

Combination actually. Exhaust has flaps, and audio speakers also used to enhance sound.

I believe that the Audi doesn't use synthesized engine sounds through the stereo's speakers like the BMW's. I just amplifies the exhaust sounds either through a separate speaker, or through a chamber that opens up depending on the drive settings. The thing about it is that modern cars are so well insulated, that you would not hear the engine from the inside of the cabin as much as you would like if there wasn't a system like this in there. I guess if the car had a monster motor (or about 75+ more hp + exhaust and intake) then you wouldn't need it

Searching around on EU s3 forums it looks like we have a "soundaktor" after all.

Yeah, my previous car (Golf R) had a soundaktor. It's a module mounted to the firewall the produces frequencies to make engine sounds. Many people disliked them and unplugged/removed them.

Has anyone disabled this yet on our new platform? Pulling the fuse doesn't work like in the B8.5 S4.

I've compared turning it on and off in "individual" and I have to say w/ it off the engine sounds terrible (like a normal 4 cy). Even being fake I like it, I would actually like to turn it up a bit so I can hear where the rpm's are more when driving around in tip.

I unplugged it and drove it today like that. I plugged it back in. I will probably unplug it again when I install the Milltek catback.

I doubt its the sound system otherwise you would be hearing popping-hissing sounds along with your engine rev
