Thumbs up MMI 2G Update Software

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Hey guys, new to the forum. Been doing a lot of reading but never did register until now.

I bought a 06 Avant and love it. My biggest gripe so far is the fact that I can't stream music via bluetooth especially when the car has bluetooth capabilities with the phone!!! (makes no sense to me)I wanted to do the MMI update and get the AMI bluetooth kit so I can stream from my iPhone. First thing in my task was to get the MMI from version 11.9.0 to 46.1.0

It took me a while to source the ISO files.

My goal with this post is to make the files easily accessed for others. Here is a link to the files on my Google Drive.

    CD1: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B-0...ew?usp=sharing
    CD2: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B-0...ew?usp=sharing

CD1 is the bluetooth update. I had to run the update twice to get the phone bluetooth to work. After I did it once, it said that "The telephone is not installed." After the 2nd update everything worked fine.
CD2 is the actual MMI update. I used it to go straight from 1190 to 4610. Everything worked great.

Hope this is helpful to someone out there trying to do the update.

FYI: I am a Mac user. I could not burn the ISO files to a disc with my MacBook Pro. I had to use a Windows based machine to burn the discs!!!!! Hopefully this saves someone from some frustration like it caused me.

Mere is my Avant. Its has been raining ever since I bought it, so i've had no opportunities to snap some good photos of it.

Wow this is great. So do I need to burn these files onto a CD-R and then just "play" it through the MMI? And what is the AMI Bluetooth kit? Thanks so much!

Download the files to your computer. Burn them to a CD-R using a .ISO mounting program ( http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/w...om-an-iso-file ) The .ISO file contains many other files. It has to be burnt properly for the MMI to be able to read the disc.

I used this link to get a good idea of step by step instructions on the process:
    http://uberlame.com/a6_tsb/MMI/MMI%2...0procedure.pdf

The reason I had to do the update is that within the hidden menu, I could not activate the AUX at the software version 1190, the option was not there.

Now I just need to figure out which device i want to get so that I can stream music from my phone via Pandora or Slacker.

I have 4610 and couldn't stream from my iPhone (I have bluetooth enabled). Weird.

Any idea if this works with Android? Any other accessories needed?

4610 does not give you the ability to stream. What it did for me was that it allowed me to enable the AUX within the hidden menu. That way when I get around to installing the AMI parts, I will be able to get everything working.

Gotcha, so I need the parts then.

Could you list what AMI parts those are? The one thing I do miss is Pandora and would love to be able to get that back without having to tool around with a 3.5' aux cord.

Lots of threads on this and in fact there are other options besides AMI. I have a Dension 500 installed with a tune2air module to allow A2DP Bluetooth streaming. Also search for xcarlink.

No, it might disable the climate controls appearing on the screen and the battery meter. But those can be brought back easily after the update.

Sorry fairly new to the forum, so if I update my MMI software (like shown above) will I be able to stream music via bluetooth or would I need some additional hardware etc.

    Thanks

No. You need additional hardware because the A2DP bluetooth codec wasn't around back when this MMI system was made.

probably a stupid question, but what software version should my 08 A6 have and do dealers charge to upgrade the mmi software?

Most of the time dealers charge to upgrade it. The latest North America software version is 46.1.0. See the third picture from the top of this thread.

Try updating again with both CD's. If it doesn't work, unplug your battery for a half hour then try the updates again.

If it still doesn't work, then your XM module is bricked...

Wish I could help but i don't know anything about that, and no one i've heard of has had the same problem. Did you disrupt the update or did something happen during it?

If you get the hidden menu active in the MMI I'm pretty sure you can manually start the boot loader and override any software version from one to another without going through the SW update. That might be worth a try.

Also a VCDS scan of that module would be helpful.

You probably haven't gotten any replies because its A. The weekend, and B. People are still trying to figure out what is going on.
But you're the first person to encounter that issue so I'm not sure exactly what is going on. For most of us the update has been fairly smooth sailing.
A VCDS scan should be the first thing you try though to see if you might be having a problem with a module or something.

Also regarding what FormulaElement said: Aren't we not supposed to start the bootloader from the hidden menu?

Not really because from what i've found it starts a boot loader that can install a earlier version of the software that might not play nicely with a different modules newer software. You're supposed to start the update it by holding return and setup i think? (instead of car and setup which is the hidden menu)

I would purchase the vag com and do a vid scan but this is all new to me and I don't want to fudge anything up more than it already is. I am trying to find a zine member from CT who can assist me with a vag com. It's either that or I visit the stealers hip so thy an charge me $125 to tell me wh I already know.

Ok so I updated my MMI software successfully...for the most part. It failed on part of the DSP update, and re-running it causes it to fail again. I'm not sure yet what impact this will have, but so far everything is working. Also, did anyone do the 45 minute phone preparation update?

i have a Vag-Com, I figured it out by searching at Ross-Tech for someone with similar problem. This is what I did:

***As VCDS always directs, write down any previous values before changing anything so you can get back to where you were in case something doesn't work. The steps below worked for me. Your results may vary.***

Go to [07] - Control Head (in the Control Module)
    - Go to Adaptation
    - Go to Channel 11, then click Read
    - Add +32 to existing value of what ever number is yours, in my case it was #4 so that would be value of 36 (VAG–COM provides a pop–up with the options)
    - Test and save
-There will be a "do you really want to do this?" type warning. Click OK.
    - Reset MMI by pressing these 3 buttons.
Pressing SETUP, BIG Center Knob, and top right soft button together, now all you have to do is release you fingers and it will reboot.

As for the batttery status that also went away:

    TURNING BATTERY STATUS BACK ON:
Go to [07] - Control Head (in the Control Module)
    - Go to Adaptation
-Go to Channel 02, then click Read
-At this point, a value of 3 was shown on mine. Yours may vary so adjust your numbers accordingly.
    - +00032 is the Battery Status so you add 32 to the 3 for a total of 35.
-Thus instead of 3, input 35 in the New Value field.
    -Click TEST.
-If 35 shows up in the Test Field, click SAVE.
-There will be a "do you really want to do this?" type warning. Click OK.
    - Reset MMI by pressing these 3 buttons.
Pressing SETUP, BIG Center Knob, and top right soft button together, now all you have to do is release you fingers and it will reboot.

Got my Climate control interface and battery status back now!

I have an early build 2005 C6 A6 so the MMI softare is a bit older than what most people on here have. Has anyone been successful at locating an .iso (Zug 317) download to go from 0750 -> 1070?

Per the TSD linked above this is required as an interim step before loading "4F0998961_cd2.iso" (part of Zug 864).

Side note: I was able to do the bluetooth update using "4F0998961_cd1.iso" and I've got bluetooth calling now, which is great, but I want to get an AMI working as well. Which isnt working yet without the "4F0998961_cd2.iso" (part of Zug 864) update.

    Pics of current SW level:
