    Battery Replacement Time? 07 S4

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hey Guys,
My 2007 S4 has ultra low miles - about 10,500- is it considered normal for the battery to play out already () considering how little it's been driven? I realize the car is 7 years old so maybe I've been living on borrowed time with the stock battery. First I thought it might be a seperate issue that the car suddenly wasn't able to start or even crank because all my lights seemed to be functional, but now I'm not getting any power so I hope it's just the battery. I drove it about two weeks ago the last time and everything seemed to be OK. I checked some of the fuses and couldn't see any that were visibly blown. I'll take another look in the morning. It is getting a little cold here in Seattle tonight down in the twenties.
It looks like some of you had replaced your stock battery 3 years ago.

    Thanks,
    JayT

At that age, I would expect the battery to be near the end of its life. The fact that the mileage is so low means that it probably isn't driven enough to keep it charged.

You can get the CCA tested for free at an auto parts store. I suspect you'll see 300 or less.

JUST replaced the battery in my girlfriend's S4 avant last night. Got a Duralast Gold from Autozone because it fits like the factory original, has more CCA's than stock, and carries a 5 year warranty. Bolted right in, even had the little hole for the vent tube just like the OEM one did. The car starts right up now.

    LOL,
Yeah I only drive it on weekends, I bike to work when the weather is good and drive my old GMC Yukon. I thought about trading the S4 for a TTS, I'm a big guy and the TT is really a girls car:). Plus every time I fire up that V8 I know I'd be missing that exhaust note. Don't have any recent pics, but the car looks the same; not a scratch on it!

It's moderately depressing to see such a nice car with low mileage. Cars were meant to be driven and enjoyed! High mileage = well-loved.

I was about ready to pick up a new battery from Autozone , but they weren't able to test it until they charged it up. In the meantime I had decided to pay a little more and just pick up an OEM from the dealership . Read somewhere here that Varta batteries used are specific to our cars electrical systems and after all it lasted for more than 7 years.
When I went back to Autozone I was pleasantly informed that my battery checked out 100% good! Threw her back in the car and fired right up. Awesome!

i would recommend buying a ctek battery charger and just leave it hooked up. i'm doing the same for my S4 while hibernating for the winter. i've since replaced my battery with a optima yellow and haven't looked back. it's smaller and lighter. works great for my so-so sound system i got.

Looks like Autozone didn't know what the hell they were talking about. I did dive the car afterwards, but the battery did not hold a charge. The next morning the car wouldn't start. Weird thing is that the RSN-e would cycle of and on even after the ignition was turned off. I hope this isn't indicitatuve of some larger electrical problem. I going to pick up a new battery from the dealership tomorrow.
