    buying a Q7, tdi or 3.0t? opinions?

hey guys im in the market to buy a Q7, buying a prestige sline only. either going to get a 3.0T or TDI, whats the real life MPG you all have been seeing with both, its hard to find good reviews online for this topic. i will be traveling approx 60 miles round trip a day to work, mostly hwy with some city, prolly 70/30 hwy. outside of MPG what will i be more happy with for a driving experience overall as well. ive never owned an SUV, honestly only cars ive ever owned have pushed nothing less that 500whp, besides those multiple crotch rockets (speed junky), hence the getting an sline only, then tuning etc after lol. thanks for your input and help! heres the 2 that currently have my interest, if any1 on the forum is selling a similar vehicle please let me know as well!

I have the 3.0t and I'm in Canada so I'll be speaking in KM. It depends on how I drive, if I'm zooming a lot or being casual but I usually fall between 600-700km a tank range. Sometimes 750km if I really want to drain the tank to 0. But I've had a few 550ish km a tank range too.

I have a 3.0T Prestige (333HP). Smooth highway driving (such as driving 70 MPH without sudden accelerations and deceleration) gets me between 21-22 MPG. City driving MPG is horrible about 14 MPG. If you are only interested in MPG you need to get a TDI. I personally cannot stand the sound of the diesel engine.

The new Q7 due on 2016 is boating 30 MPG for the 333 HP engine. Unfortunately I really don't like how they have made this gorgeous car look like a crossover minivan. But that interior and the 30 MPG....

Lol like I said depends on your drive! But i would say the range band would be 550-750. It also changes in the summer and winter time here in Canada

I own a 2011 TDI Q7 and i have driven the gas Q7 and can honestly say that the TDI is a better buy especially considering what an after market tune can do. you get the better fuel economy with zero downside other than diesel not being available at all fuel stations. and the diesel engine is hardly any louder.

TDI all the way! OK maybe I'm being a little biased but you can't beat the highway MPG with the TDI. The 3.0T is a real performer, driven two different 3.0T Q's while mine was in for scheduled maintenance. If you want that quick and snappy feeling, the 3.0T would be a better choice, if MPG's are more of a concern then the TDI will do it better for sure. My average full tank range will give me about 600 miles with about 30-40 miles left before completely empty. Smooth and hearty acceleration, flattens out a little bit in the mid range but it just keeps pulling. Add an ECU tune for the TDI and now you have a real fun turbo-diesel. The sound of the diesel engine can't really be heard in the cabin, if you're close enough to the engine on the outside then you can hear the diesel knocking but it sounds cool if you ask me. I always like the "that's a diesel!!" remark when fueling up, never gets old.
