Front heated Seat Retrofit Harness Help

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
So I bought a Front Seat heater retrofit harness on ebay. Its a kufatec harness but it didn't come with wiring instructions or anything.

A while back i bought a heated seat compatible HVAC console and I've got heated seats installed in the car at the moment, so I'm set there. Basically my question is if anyone has pinouts or even a kufatec install PDF they can share so I can get the seats wired up properly? there aren't too many pins to splice into the harnesses, but I'm just a noob when it comes to wiring.

Thanks for those Noti, but they don't really help unfortunately. The Power seat one could help, but the images are toast unfortunately.

The thing is I already have the harness, I just need to know the pinout on the HVAC unit or if someone has the Kufatec install PDF if they could share it with me that would be even better. I suppose I could try digging into the Bentley manual, but wiring diagrams make my head hurt...

Hey charles, are you trying to go from non heated seats to heated? Since I installed my recaros never got to make them work, if you do have information please share with me too, I would like to make them work if I can. What type of wire did you bought?

I bought a Kufatec harness second hand on eBay ($20 cheaper and Kufatec says they're 6 weeks backordered or something). And yea I'm looking to do non-heated to heated conversion. I have heating pad equipped front seats installed, as well as a Heater equipped HVAC unit installed as well, I just need to figure out the wiring.

For the moment I'm "borrowing" Evo-ski's old heated seats, he's got my non-heated seats at his house chilling. At some point (probably once I get the harness sorted out) we're going to swap the seat skins because mine are in better shape than his. I'll swap my seat skin over to his seat and put his old skins on my old seats so I keep his heated seat with my seat skin. When I do that I'll be sure to take some pics.

Depending on how much free time I have, and if the weather cooperates, I'm going to try getting the harness installed this weekend. I don't have a covered area to work though so if it rains I won't be able to pull the seats out and tear into the interior.

You really need the wiring diagrams. The wiring diagrams show all of the information you are asking for. You can get the diagrams from Audi.usa.erwin, with a one day subscription and print all the pages you want during that time.

They are glued to the seat cushion, my backrest heater died and I ended up buying a 2 used seats and frankenstiening them to get working lumbar/heater/not ripped bottom because pulling the elements off the cushions looked like a huge pain.

Do you mind showing a picture of the wiring harness or just the link you bought from on ebay. So I can order the right wiring too

This is from the DIY this guy did on a B5 on Audiworld which I am imagine is not any different and this pic shows him splitting off the heated seat harness from the main dash wiring harness. So to me it seems like you would just need the 2 green heated seat plugs for under each seat, the white plug to the kick panel and some wiring in whatever gauge is required.

I am curious why you needed a kufatec harness, is your harness the same as in this picture 3 plugs and some wires? any chance you can post a pic of the harness you have? because I am a bit confused how a harness is needed its 3 plugs and some wires. The harness to the HVAC unit is the same you would just connect the additional wiring as far as I understand. I could be wrong about all this because the only thing I have done so far is install my heated Recaros' I haven't put in the HVAC control unit yet.

I think you're misunderstanding the point of this thread. I already have the harness. And seats with heating elements and hvac with controls. And I wouldn't assume the b5 is the same. I have a b7 hvac panel and despite the b7 being nearly identical inside and the hvac panel itself looking 100% identical, the rear defrost is electrically different and requires a relay to be retrofitted to work with a b6.

As far as why I bought a kifatec harness? I have zero experience with electrical stuff, wiring, etc. and while 99% of the time I diy stuff, electrical work simply doesn't make sense to my brain. Whether it's home electrical, or car electrical, it's just confusing for me to comprehend. Not to mention after I bought the connectors, and bought the wires, and bought the pins, I would have spent more than I would on the kufatec harness alone.

As for my harness, it's packed away in the basement and I haven't had a chance to sort through the boxes to find it yet so no pictures, sorry. Literally, all I'm asking for are where (what connectors) to put the bare pins into on the HVAC panel side.

Anyway, no updates to this, got hung up doing yard work and it's supposed to rain all day tomorrow so nothing will happen then.

If you have a harness it should plug into the bottom of each seat, and fuel panel and have loose wires that plug into the back of the hvac so all you should need is the diagram for the wires connecting the hvac which shouldn't be too hard to figure out. Unless I am missing something.

Front heated Seat Retrofit Harness Help

I know this isn't going to help a ton but I finally dug out the harness I bought a while back. Pics:

It would seem there are two ground straps (the grey cables, no idea where they go) the main harness ground (brown wire coming out of the main harness), and two connectors for each seat. My main problem is in picture 2. I'm not sure where all those pins go in the hvac console. If they even go into the hvac console.

I'm confused, why are there 2 connectors on each end, the plug for the harness should already be on the seat itself. All that's needed is the female end (which is green from the factory) shown in the picture below. and the wiring to run it to the fuse box and then climate unit as yours shows with the pins. So what are the other 2 plugs for? Rear seats? which wouldn't make sense to come off at the same place if they were. But I guess its possible. I am just wondering if I am missing some info here of what is needed to do this mod.

CP, are you 100% sure that is a heater harness? The heater plugs are green. The black and red are simply power for the seat movement and lumbar on the normal pre-installed harness.

I'm not 100% sure. It said specifically in the eBay ad it was though.

Seems very odd they didn't use the oem colors. I am wondering which other plug you remove from the seat side then. Since the seats have black, red, and green, I wonder if they want you to swap out the red or the black factory ones with the ones from your new harness.

Shoot me a text with a picture of the black and red plugs so I can see which wires in the plugs are filled. I will then take a look at your old seats in my basement and see if those wires match what are on your non heated seats.

I'll see if I can take a pic later today and send it to you. It was too dark to take a decent pic last night.

I'm wondering if the seller was mistaken and its a power seat harness...

The listing text says it is a "custom made" harness, not a Kufatec. Anyway, the wiring diagram for the HVAC shows the connector terminal position number for each wire. Insert the terminals for the HVAC into the harness connectors at the terminal pin numbers shown for each wire.

According to the diagram, the driver's seat heater connects to the E87 HVAC controller at C/5 and F/1. The passenger's seat heater connects at C/6 and F/2. No polarity for each heater wire pair.

Do you know what to do to add the relay to power the rear window defroster?

Sorry I should have clarified. There is a migrated product code tag on it. I couldn't find anything about the item number on their website though.

And yea I already wired up the rear defrost relay. Was actually pretty straightforward. I like to think I did a very clean job of it too!

Thanks for those pin locations John. Much appreciated. I'll try to confirm them in my Bentley and hopefully I can find some time (when it's not raining) to pull the seats out and get this harness in. The weather has been supremely uncooperative these past few weeks. I've actually got a small pile of maintenance to do on both the b6 and b7 I just haven't had good enough weather to tackle anything on the weekends...

Here are the plugs by the way.

I cross referenced the plug part numbers in ETKA and they look to be the proper plugs, so it would appear this harness is correct, plug-wise.

Seems that if the ebay seller has installed them in 20+ Audi's they should be able to provide you with some form of instructions or wiring diagram. Did you ask them to see what you can get?

Yea I sent them a message on ebay. heard nothing back. For some reason it never occurred to me to try them again. Worth a shot I suppose.

can you post the plug part numbers please? Also is that guy still selling the harness on ebay because I couldn't find anything, except ones that look like the whole main dash harness I saw nothing that was just for the heated seats.

    Contacted the seller:

Me: I was wondering if you had any install instructions for this Seat Heating harness? I'm looking to install it soon but I'm not certain where the pins are inserted into the existing HVAC harness and where the grey pins/rings go.

Seller: They plug into the a/c control unit or control. Same thing. And then to both front seats. Then to the fuse box and the ground on the left kick panel.

So it seems its "obvious". Not super helpful...

    Quick update.

I havent had much time to deal with this but I did some quick recon on the seats I have installed, and compared the adapter harness plugs to the plugs on the seat and two conclusions:
    1) The harness I got isn't exactly what I thought. It appears to be a Seat Heating + Power Seat retrofit harness.
    2) This isn't a big deal because the actual plug for the seat heaters matches up right and shouldn't have any issues. I can either leave the power plugs unconnected in the adapter harness or just chop them off.

Furthermore, in a shocking turn of events, for the first time ever, the Bentley manual has the actual wiring diagram I need listed in the back. Despite my self professed ignorance with regards to wiring and electrical work in general, after lots of staring blankly at the page the wiring diagram is beginning to make sense (or I figured out where it shows the wire colors and where it shows the connector block pins) so I'm just going to match the wires with the pins and we should be good to go for the HVAC module end of the wiring.

Hopefully in the next month I should finally have some time to tear into the interior and get this sorted finally.

I figured I would add this info on this thread since it has the most collective information for heated seats.

So I have a factory harness assembly that I pulled out of an entire seat harness for just the heated seat portion. Here are the Part numbers if you wanted to make it yourself All you need is some wire and a few plugs.

    3B0-972-734 x2

    380-972-712 x2

2 Green Connectors Not sure on Part number for these but it shouldn't be hard to find.

Wire with connectors, some connectors are different sizes, you'll just have to pick which ones when you buy the connectors. Dealer should stock all sizes.

    Necro bump....

Hey charles....you ever get the wiring for this figured out? Suspect you picked up power from where ever, didn't use the red plugs, and put the pins into the climate control connector. Did bentley have the data on where to put each pin?
