I'm on my 4th season w/ these tires, averaging about 6000mi / yr on them... so about 18k mi so far.
Always had them on my 2011 S4.
Now I just put them on my 2015 S4 for the 1st time, and boy are they loud. Don't remember them being this loud when I took them off in the spring.
At least I'm hoping it's just the tires.

On a related note, I do notice gravel being kicked up by the car hitting the inside of the wheel wells. Never noticed that in the 2011.
Maybe a reduction in sound deadening materials?? Could be whey I'm hearing more tire coming through?

    Sorry for the OCD.

I hear ya on this. I swear my 2015 is louder on the inside than my 2012, and I'm kind of relieved to hear someone else reporting the same thing.
My Wintersport 3Ds were on my 2012 when I traded it in (long story) and I noticed they were much louder than the previous season. They had seen 3 winters of use at that point, tread was still above the first set of wear bars. Granted it was ~60 degrees out when I drove it to the dealer to do the trade, but I had run them in warmer temps like that at the end of last winter/ early spring and never noticed them so loud.
Are yours a constant roar, or a periodic "wub wub wub" like once per revolution? Mine sounded periodic, but I stored them laying flat and inflated 35-40 psi so I ruled out any chance of flat spotting.

    Steve,

Once i get going it's a bit of a roar, but I get the 'wub wub wub' during deceleration, especially at lower speeds.
And mine are stored indoors laying flat too, 33psi.

I really don't want to buy new winter tires, and I have Conti's for the summer and I'm not fond of how my car handles.
That could be partially due to the new type of steering vs the B8. I had dunlops on my 11, and loved them... lasted over 22k.

Yep that sounds very familiar. How does your tread wear look? Unfortunately I can't help you diagnose further since I traded mine in with the old car, but I will say that the steering on this car is very....interesting.....compared to the B8. It got a little better when I installed the Alu Kreuz stabilizer, but then it got real shitty yesterday when I put my 18" winter tires on.
For whatever it's worth, my brand new winter tires (245/40R18 Michelin Alip PA4) have a bit of a roar and nearly a wub-wub-wub phenomenon going on, and I've only put ~50 miles on them. I think to some extent that's just how winter/snow tires sound.

Tread wear is fine. Didn't measure it but it looks pretty consistent.
"I think to some extent that's just how winter/snow tires sound." I'd like to agree w/ this, but they were quiet last year.
    I'm starting to miss my 2011. :(

i have about 10k on my dunlop 3d's after 2 seasons and after changing them 3 days ago, i noticed a slight difference, but nothing like what you guys are describing. For me, they are smooth and not MUCH louder, but I will admit i heard them a bit more on the roads.

I have been running them for a few years and they are noisy.

Only noticed a slight difference when switching from my PSS's to the Winter Sport's. 3rd season and still got 8/32 all around tread depth :)

I've had a few sets of those Dunlop mainly because there is very little difference in ride, noise and handling at changeover. 2 winters in and havent noticed any increase in noise. Having said that , I think I'll try LM 32 next.

I put my WinterSport's on last weekend for the first time on my '15 after having them on my '11 for three winters. Haven't noticed any difference between having them on the '11 and the '15. They are definitely louder than my summer tires, but this was true on the '11 too. I was actually kinda amazed how good the tires looked after 3 winters of use; the tread still looks almost brand new, even after a few harsh winters.

Once I got past ~12k miles on my 3D's, they got noticeably louder.
