Always had them on my 2011 S4.
Now I just put them on my 2015 S4 for the 1st time, and boy are they loud. Don't remember them being this loud when I took them off in the spring.
At least I'm hoping it's just the tires.
On a related note, I do notice gravel being kicked up by the car hitting the inside of the wheel wells. Never noticed that in the 2011.
Maybe a reduction in sound deadening materials?? Could be whey I'm hearing more tire coming through?
Sorry for the OCD.

I hear ya on this. I swear my 2015 is louder on the inside than my 2012, and I'm kind of relieved to hear someone else reporting the same thing.
My Wintersport 3Ds were on my 2012 when I traded it in (long story) and I noticed they were much louder than the previous season. They had seen 3 winters of use at that point, tread was still above the first set of wear bars. Granted it was ~60 degrees out when I drove it to the dealer to do the trade, but I had run them in warmer temps like that at the end of last winter/ early spring and never noticed them so loud.
Are yours a constant roar, or a periodic "wub wub wub" like once per revolution? Mine sounded periodic, but I stored them laying flat and inflated 35-40 psi so I ruled out any chance of flat spotting.
