Winter Tire Review Pirelli Winter Sottozero Serie II

    Hey All,
Just thought I would post a quick one about my initial thoughts on the Pirelli Winter Sottozero Serie II.

I bought them on tirerack.com for $101 each, incredible price. Tire rack called me right away to let me know the tire is maxing out on it's weight rating with an S4 but should be able to handle the car just as an FYI. I told the nice guy who called I don't plan on driving anywhere with more than a single passenger. Fast-forward a couple weeks and I got them shipped to Point Roberts WA and brought them over the boarder to Canadahstan, only had to pay $70 in duty then had them mounted and balanced on the stock peelers for another $100 at a local quality shop (which also checked my break wear as well incl).
Right away I noticed they're a lot softer than my stock Conti's and quieter. I had a couple days off so my girl and I drove to Banff Alberta (from Vancouver BC). Round trip was 1700km (1056mi) and we hit all types of winter driving situations. The tires felt comfortable on packed snow, dry, slush, wet, dirt. We were in +15C to -7C (59F to 20F) and I never felt I needed more grip from the tires. Managed some donuts in a snowy parking lot until wifey started to smack me for getting dizzy.

    Pros:
    - cheap
    - quiet
    - comfortable
    - suit my needs perfectly

    Cons:
    - R rated wasn't ideal for trip as I could have been going a lot faster due to ideal weather (200-250km/h)
    - probably faster wear because the S4 is a heavy girl and the tires are right at their weight rating limit

    Summary:
Crazy value, bring on the snow!

These? How on Earth did you get them for $101 each?

EDIT: For some reason it won't let me link to the right page, but anyway TireRack currently shows that tire in 235/40/19 listed for $275 each.

The 235/40/19 is also listed as an XL load rating and W speed rated. Not sure why yours would not be. We talking about the same tire here as they're listed at $298 each.
