Anyone have a BendPak Car Lift?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
We are in the process of doubling the size of our garage and will be installing a lift in the back half. Currently shopping for a 4 post car lift and leaning toward the Bendpak brand with 7000# capacity (HD-7W). There are a couple of others similar out there by Backyard Buddy, Greg Smith and Dannmar.

Anyone have good (or bad ) experience with Bendpak home lifts?

Thanks, I know the commercial grade Bendpak lifts are everywhere, just wondering if the home lifts are also as well regarded by actual users.

I have the 9 HD (or something like that) for about 7 years or so.

It gets a fair amount of use from either moving cars around in my garage or working on vehicles for me and my friends.

Never had an issue. My neighbor got the same one a couple of years ago.

I did a lot of research and at the end of the day, it has the same certifications as many of the higher end lifts and it was cheaper, so I went with it.

I have a bendpak scissor lift. I looked at 4 posts but since I was not after adding storage space I went with the scissor lift. If I got a 4 post, it would be bendpak. Customer service is great. My lift pads were rusted, surface rust but it upset me since it was brand new. They sent me another set and told me to keep the others.

Sounds like we can't really go wrong with the Bendpak, thanks for the replies.

I have the quickjack BL-5000 by Ranger, Bendpak is the parent company. It's pretty cool, and you can literally put in in your car and bring it to the track with you. It even has an option for a DC motor, so you can use your car battery.

OP, what is your primary intention for the lift? Gaining extra parking or basic mechanical work? I gather by your post your looking for added parking. This is where the four posts are best used. You can use them for working on the vehicle but there are better options for that if that if your primary need. I spend over a year researching and figuring out what exactly I wanted and was going to use mine for, before I pulled the trigger. Best part was I got it on Amazon, free shipping and used points and gift cards to pay for most it. LOL Benpak really regulates their pricing so you will not see someone dramatically lower than others.

a 4 post lift is the worse choice you can make when buying a lift. The only reason you want a 4 post is if you want more space under your car or whatever car is on that lift. They are useless for working on the car. All you can do is oil changes on them and thats it. Your better off with a 2 post or a scissor lift. You can get a nice twin post installed for like 2-2.5k. They are pretty cheap and work on 240. And you can do anything to the car with a twin post or scissor lift.

I have a Backyard Buddy 4 post lift. I have had it for about 15 years, lots of use, no issues. Made in the USA. I use it for storage and repairs. For repairs where you need to take the wheels off, a jack on the jack trolley works fine. I trust the better stability of a 4 post lift, rather than a 2 post frame-lift type.

I agree that is why I was asking the OP what his main goal was for the lift. I went with the scissor because mine is mostly service related, I can not drill my slab for a two post and like that the scissor stays under the car and out of the way when not being used.

Really? Useless for working on a car? My HD-9 four post with the rolling bridge jack would find a nice argument with that. Let's see, full exhaust systems, suspension work, tire work....

To the OP, I've had mine for about 5 years with no issues so far. Would purchase again.

He's not wrong, it's possible but at an added expense. Even with the rolling jacks it still isn't as comfortable as a 2 post or scissor lift though.

Having owned the HD9-XW for 5 years for me it was the right decision. Garage wasn't super wide so 2 cars wouldn't fit comfortably next to each other. I needed something that I could do engine, and exhaust work on. If you need to swap out wheels or do brakes/suspension work the 2 post or scissor lift is the way to go. I almost went that route but I prefer to have the safety of the 4 post. I detail cars on the side and having access to both sides of the car without a post being in the way was a deciding factor also.

Best deals I could find on lifts was here at asedeals.com plus they offer free shipping and no tax. GOOD LUCK

I have a Challenger 2 post in mine. I've used a 4 post as well. The 4 post is much easier to get on, but I find the 2 post to be more useful.

Based on the OP's question, the assumption is that he is looking for additional storage in his home garage and not trying to start a business repairing cars (at least that's my interpretation of what's being asked).

If you are a tech working on cars all day, then I agree, 4 post is not the way to go. If you are trying to increase storage space and leverage that capability to work on cars, then the inline jack works fine in my experience.

With mine, I have done exhausts, brakes, motor mounts, suspensions, etc. on all my cars, my GF's car, a few of my neighbor's cars, friend's cars and even cars for people I've met on various forums, including Audizine.

Am I able to get all 4 wheels off the ground at the same time? No (unless I bought a second one). But for fitting multiple cars and motorcycles in my garage, and still having the ability to work on cars, it's a more robust option.

Yea your right. Just depends on your space requirements and options to go with and what best suits your needs. I want to get a 2 car garage so I don't have to fool with space option. My dad thought about a 4 post but never pulled the trigger. I love to have a full 2 post lift that will go all the way up. that's ideal but you have to work with what you got.

I'm planning on installing a 4 post lift in my 3rd car garage in the spring. I ordered new custom garage doors last month (nice carriage style wood finish doors). When these get installed I'm having the single (3rd car) door installed with a high lift option which gets the track right up to the ceiling and I'm doing a wall mount opener. I've got just shy of 12' from floor to ceiling but I've got a beam that is soffited around so I will end up with a little over 10' of clear height which is plenty of room for me as my Z06 will be residing on the lift. I'm doing this lift mainly for additional storage as I plan to park the car under it in the summer and store items such as snow blower, winter tire sets, etc.... On top. In the winter the car will go up on top and items will be moved underneath. Secondary use will be oil changes/detailing.

With 4 cars now, we are just looking for more storage space and need to park a car underneath the lift. Not going to be working on cars with it, and most of the time my wife's classic car will be on it. I just want her to be able to drive on it and hit the lever and raise it and not have to place pivot arms under car as on a two post life. We specifically designed the addition to be wider and much taller than the existing garage to fit in the lift.

yes if that's what you requirements dictate then the 4 post is for you and very convient.

Good friend of mine has a 2 post Benpak asymmetric at his place. It is awesome but he has trouble getting his 911 Turbo with side skirts on it because the car sits so close to the ground. Shouldn't have those problems with any Audi car (though can't speak to the R8) unless it's been really lowered. Lifts massive aand heavy QX56 with ease, though you can only go so far due to the bar across the top. Still more than enough. I love it and it's not even mine.

He needs to get some race ramps to drive up on first, that's what I do for my m3. That or some paver stones.

I just want her to be able to drive on it and hit the lever and raise it and not have to place pivot arms under car as on a two post life. We specifically designed the addition to be wider and much taller than the existing garage to fit in the lift.
4 post it is. Good luck and post pics when you get yours installed.

Thanks, I can see it getting out of hand quickly with all the choices for the floor and wall storage.

Regardless of your choice just make sure you have the required concrete thickness in your garage floor. Some say 4 inches of 3000 lb test concrete is required?

Yes, already specifically spec'd it when we went over plans.

I was looking at buying Directlift 4 post lift for a couple years for storage, but ultimately I decided to get a 2 post so I could do a lot more. Install was a breeze, I did it myself in a few hours.

For the space you have a Danmar Maxjax might be a good compromise. It is 2 post, you don't need a 220 circuit for it and you could put it away behind those corners if you needed/wanted to. Not a super expensive lift either. But if you are solely going for storage, a 4 post would be the way to go. Good luck on the search and post pics of the completed setup when you are done. I like garage workshop pictures.

I almost went with the maxjax but because I have a post tensioned slab they would not work. They are a great option.

Are the RaceRamps custom or off the shelf pieces?

I ordered them custom. They are looking at offering them as a standard item for scissor lifts. They are the perfect height so the arms swing out over them as you can see here. If you call them and tell them you want ramps for a scissor lift they already have the specs.

Are there any hybrid 4 post lifts that would allow for also lifting the car by the frame rather than the tires...ie: to make rotating tires etc easy but still have the storage safety of a drive on lift?

Another poster mentioned slider jacks. That is what you use on a 4 post lift to lift the car up off the runways. They also have jack trays to hold jack stands if you want. The issue just becomes the price. The bendpak hd-9, that was previously mentioned, sells for about $3000. Now to have the cats meow you will need two slide jacks at $1100 each. As you can see it gets expensive very quickly and you still have to reach across the runways. There are less expense ways to also do this with jack trays and bottle jacks or air bag jacks.

Yes and they dissable into 3 sections. One entire side only weights 40lbs so its very portable.
