    20" Wheels for Q5 2.0T AWD

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hi Guys,

I'm looking at a set of wheels but it comes with 2 different offsets. Here are the specifications:

    20" x 9" Wheels
    66.6 hub
    35mm Offset (front and rear)
    5 x 112 Bolt Pattern

    OR

They come in a 37mm Offset (front and rear)

Which offset would be best and what do you guys recommend for tire size. I want it to look OEM. I would run with continental DWS tires.

    Thanks

Looks like the 3.0T's 20" wheels use 255/45/20s but they are 8.5 in width versus the ones I'm looking at are 9.0 in width. Should I stick with the 255s or go wider?

haha if you can tell the difference in 35mm or 37mm I'd be surprised.

Not to question your math, but I can't think of a reason for a wheel maker to offer otherwise identical wheels with offset specs varying by just 2mm. Is there a chance one is wider than 9"?

That said - either spec is fine, and the overall 'stance' will be darn near identical to stock. 9" with a 255/45 is perfectly fine - most tire makers spec a max width of 9.5" for that tire.

(EDIT) You know, just in case, there are other factors to consider as well when shopping for aftermarket wheels. Here's the full stock spec, FWIW:

    20 x 8.5, ET33, 66.6mm hub diameter, 5x112 bolt pattern; lug bolts are 14x1.5x30mm R14 ball seat.

Your spec confirms the hub diameter (which should negate the need for hubcentric rings, but check with the wheel vendor just in case) and bolt pattern. The offset spec is close to OEM, but if you'd like to see it in graphic form, here's a great link:

The right lug bolts are just as important. In my experience, most aftermarket wheels (including a lot of quality replica products) use a different spec. In this case, the critical element will be the seat type (radius or cone) and the number associated with it. If the aftermarket set calls for different bolts, your wheel vendor may sell them, or at least will be able to provide the spec. (Keep this in mind too if you use a wheel lock kit - you'll need to buy that new as well to match the spec for the aftermarket wheels.) Here's a link:

One last thing, since you're tire shopping. Factor in the load rating requirement. I believe the Q5 calls for a 101 spec at minimum, but this should be in the owner's manual. I believe the Extreme Contact DWS in this size (255/45) is @ 105, so you should be fine, but it's definitely something to consider. Audis are not lightweights, and the Q5 is no exception. When you load up with passengers and/or cargo, this is not something you want to think about.

I hope that helps....happy shopping, and post some pics!

Thanks for the feedback guys! I'm not sure about the offset differences either and why they would offer two that are so close. Both are definitely 9" widths.

So I'll do the 20x9 wheels with 66.6mm hub diameter and 35mm offset with 255/45/20 tires and I'll double check about the lug nuts.

They are the rotar arm matte replica wheels in 20".

    Thanks for all the help!

just to echo what others have said already. either set will be just fine and you will likely not be able to tell a difference. if I had to pick i would choose 35mm offset just to fill the fender a bit more.

post up some pics once you get them!
