CPO Ice Silver and Extended warranty questions?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Was a long time A4 Avant forum member and just upgraded to S4 last year to the 2011 B8, but that did not last long and I now have an Ice silver 2013 B8.5 with DSG/SD/MMI3G+/AK. So during the purchase process I was hit with the potential of an extended warranty. Previously I never gave it a thought, but with the DSG stories I was curious if others have found it valuable on a CPO car? The offer is $2600 for 7 years/75K comprehensive package which just excludes where and tear items and glass etc. The dealer said it covers MMI, DSG, engine CV etc. most everything except the items on the exclusion list.

I talked them down a bit to get to $2600 but do you think this is worth the price? This is basically how the 7 years break down.
2 years (what is left of full factory warranty)
2 years (extended CPO warranty) Zurich may help cover items CPO warranty does not cover for these 2 years.
3 years (Zurich fills in the last 3 years plus the 2 above for things not covered by CPO.)

The warranty is through Zurich, any experience with these? I did a search and people have them and think there are decent but have any members used them? Also I drive about 8K/yr so that was factored in so should last me about 7 years give or take.

Or should I just scrape it and save the $2600 ? Also if I sell it later down the road I think it helps to have, it sure did when I sold my CPO purchase.

Also the MMI in the B8.5 is so much better Bluetooth streaming works better and phone numbers have icons for home/mobile/work small things but I love seeing those things getting fixed.

I purchased a Fidelity extended warranty but drive a lot more and have had my car since it was new (not CPO). It is covered until sooner of February 2019 or just under 125K miles. I don't think I would purchase an extended warranty if I bought CPO and those low annual miles. If you want a cost comparison check with FD Warranty, which sells the same Fidelity warranties as other Audi dealers. Fidelity warranties start on purchase date, not the vehicle's in service date so you would need a shorter term / lower miles to compare cost. You should always make sure you know the warranty deductible if buying one.

Also not sure what Zurich would cover that CPO does not cover during the CPO period. You should make sure you understand exclusions under both warranties.

How long are you planning on keeping the car? I would say stick with just the CPO. For the extended warranty, isn't there a deductible

Yeah I think the deductible is like $100 I plan to keep it a long time but my last 3 cars I have had for about 5 years. Also I may tune but can probably wait till 7 years :)

The Zurich warrenty covers all electronics which the CPO does not. But really have not heard of MMI issues.

I bought my Fidelity warranty just 2 weeks ago, less than a month before the standard 4 yr/50K mile was set to expire. I paid $2,095 for an additional 3 years/36 miles with a $250 deductible. $100 deductible was $2,686. You'd have to have four warrantied repairs before the $100 deductible made more financial sense. I think that is a better to wait until the end of your Audi warranty so you will have a better idea of how many miles you will have on your car and how long you think you might keep it. The fact that you went from a 2011 to a 2013 tells me you might not be able to really keep the car 7 years. :)

Also, check the warranty fine print. Each state has different rules about you getting a refund on any unused portion of your warranty if you decide to trade your car before the warranty is up. In Illinois, I would get a prorated refund of the service contract purchase price based upon the greater of the time or mileage expired from service contract Purchase Date (less a $50 Admin fee). Since this is from the extended warranty Purchase Date, that is all the more reason to wait until right before your standard Audi warranty expires before buying.

And I read the back of my contract...CA has very similar rules, but with only a $25 Admin fee for a contract cancelation. I say wait and get the extended warranty right before the Audi warranty expires!

That's a pos deal. Too much money for less than what a CPO would give you. Have them CPO the car if you haven't bought it yet and negotiate the price before hand. Otherwise, walk on it.

Car is already CPO. Sounds like I could just wait 4 years and get a similar deal. Great feedback looks like I might just wait. On the extended warranty.

Has anyone had issues with mmi?

@CARGUY is your fidelity plan comprehensive does it cover electronics etc.

Unless that 7 years and 75k is in addition to the 6 year 100k you get out of the CPO, $2600 a good deal it does not make. lol And I seriously doubt that. To me it looks like $2600 for another year of warranty because 75k is less than the 100k you get out of the CPO, so you basically just get another year of coverage. Maybe I'm wrong on my understanding of what you put down, but this is what it looks like to me. When I buy, I buy CPO and nothing else unless I'm looking at extending warranty after the CPO is over and then that's when I shop for that warranty if I do. I buy low milage (~22-25k) and a couple of years old if even that in very good condition. Basically a car that came off a lease or traded in for something else from someone who didn't care to keep it and didn't beat up on it. They're not the easiest to find, but they are out there and they are easy to find for a good amount off. Based on the original sticker and what I paid for mine, I got it for 20k less and a good deal on my trade-in. I'll keep it for a long time and then trade it in on something else doing the same thing.

Yes, it covers electronics. The contract has a pretty massive list of what it includes. It is the Fidelity Platinum Carefree Protection plan. It has just a very short list of things it doesn't include (e.g. brakes, standard trans clutch, air bags, hinges, glass, trim, tires, wheels, battery, exhaust, etc.). It also includes 10 days of rental car, towing, etc.

If you PM me and give me your email address, I can send you a blank copy of the contract and a brochure listing everything the warranty covers and doesn't cover. The dealer I bought it from was nice enough to send that to me so I could review it before purchasing the warranty.

I paid about 60% of price quotes from two Audi dealers for the same Fidelity Platinum warranty they were selling by going through FD-Warranty (car dealership group that includes an Audi dealer). If interested in Fidelity, check pricing there vs. your local Audi dealer. They can also send you a blank warranty in PDF so you can review terms and conditions. Prices for Fidelity work in brackets, so you want to buy just before hitting 10K miles, 25K miles or wherever the next price bracket ends to maximize term / $. (Still don't think I'd buy an extended warranty on top of CPO though.)

Great feedback. I was going off others in the forum paying $3600 or $4K but maybe that was if car was fully out of warranty? Anyways I am going to call around over the next couple days to see how hard it is to just get a similar price when my CPO is about to expire. IF I keep the car that long is. I think I will end up just waiting it out, and tackling this down the road, just as a couple of you have commented. Seems like the better move and if I can save 600 bucks doing it later that is always good as well.

    just wait dude.

if you want to buy another warranty before the other one expires just remember to do it at least 30 days before your factory or cpo warranty expires, there is a lag in coverage and if you wait til the last second on the off chance something expensive breaks in between you have no coverage! SOL

With respect to my Fidelity warranty, it took about 7 days from when I pulled the trigger to when I had all the paperwork in the mail confirming I was covered by the extended warranty. Other dealers or warranty providers might be different though...
