    S6 Owners, Any of You Cross-Shop the A8 4.0T?

Buddy of mine is going back and forth between a S6 and an A8. He likes the sportiness of the S6, but the performance figures of the A8 apparently aren't that far off and the car is bigger. He's got a wife and 3 kids aged 3, 5, and 8. A8 would give him a little more room in the back. I checked APR to see if a tune could bridge any engine performance gaps and it appears their Stage 1 puts the A8 into legit mid 3's 0-60 times. Had no idea the A8 numbers were as good as they are. Even more impressive is that he is finding multiple sub-$60k 2013 A8's with low miles, compared to $60k and up S6's with higher mileage.

I wouldn't say I have never thought about it and A8 is actually a good choice if you need/want more space and don't care about it's not an S car. However, if I really want to get into 8, I would go all the way with S8.

8 is just too big for my tastes. If I wanted an 8, it would be the S8 for sure. I am still lamenting the lack of an RS6 sedan, and one that would be available in the U.S.

I just don't understand Audi sometimes. BMW, Mercedes, and Porsche all bring all their performance models to the U.S.

Currently in an A8L as I'm having some work done on my S6. Initial impressions are very good get up and go, drives smaller than actual size, and nice array of creature comforts. All that said, my preference between the two is the S6...hand's down.

if trunk space is important to you, the S6 has a deeper trunk than the A8 short wheel base or L.

Read a couple of reviews today that basically argued the opposite...why spend the extra dough on the S8 when the A8 is so close in performance. Had no idea the numbers were that close.

Spend the extra for the S8 cause uhhh, not many folks have one?

I prefer the 8's over the 6's, but that's just my opinion.

Stock to stock, S8 has the same power as RS7 while A8 4.0T has the same power as S6. That reason alone already convinces me. Also, if you equip the A8 4.0T with similar options to S8, that extra dough is only about 20k more so now you know why some people don't care to pay.

Thought about it. I just didn't want to go that big. I think it is more about what form do you want? S8 would be really cool. How much highest driving vs city?

I drove a buddies and that car is gigantic. Felt like a boat. Yeah I have to kind of disagree with the similar performance bit, after riding in a S8. No comparison.

S8 was too much and A8 was too soft coming from an S4. The S6 is a nice "compromise"...lol...if you can say that.
It retains the sportiness of the S4 with slightly less edge while gaining some more interior room.
Also similarly equipped the A8 is almost $20k more than the S6. Although that may lean you more toward the used A8 as you mentioned.

I have an A8L 4.0T right now, waiting for my RS7 to get delivered. The car does have some get up and go, and it is pretty quick. It is very comfortable and roomy, however the trunk is a bit small. The massage feature is very nice, and the fit and finish on the interior, like any audi, is superb. However, in reality, the S8 and the A8 in performance stock vs stock are not very comparable. The S8 feels much faster, and it is definitely noticeable.

I was going to get a S8 until I saw how awesomely large the S7's trunk is in comparison.
