    Exclamation 2011 A5 - Reliability/Maintenance Costs

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hey guys,

Have come down to a certified 2011 Infiniti G37xS and 2011 Audi A5 Premium Plus, similarly equipped. The price will be close. One real concern I have between the two is reliability and maintenance costs. Granted it would be under certified warranty until the end of 2016.

Still though, can I get some ideas/rough pricing for general maintenance/normal wear items?

TIA, hope to get one in the next day or so!

    -Ryan

I have an '11 A5 P+. I've had it since May '12 and I haven't had to spend anything out of pocket except for new tires and a couple quarts of oil (not including mods). I've had no reliability issues and the car came with Audi care from the previous owner, so I haven't had to pay for any of the services. I bought it with 13k miles (private party) and it's just about to hit 30k in the next few weeks. I'll be out of warranty in Jan, so hopefully things don't go down hill from there. I'll probably look into a newer model once that happens. So far so good though (knock on wood).

No problem. Good luck on the purchase. I, of course would go with the A5 all day. Much better car overall IMO.

The A5, quite frankly, is a reliable car, and if your car savvy the A5 is really not bad to work on, get VCDS and you literally won't have to visit the dealer for anything unless something catastrophic happens.

...and I vote the A5 too, you will see an Infinit G37 everywhere, the A5 is a little bit more exclusive.

I've had mine for over 4 years now. Not one issue other than a motor mount, and lower arms are going out. And I have contributed to those issues. I've also had three A4's. No issues there either other than coil packs. These cars are solid.

It convinces me I'll need wheels to replace those factory 18s pretty quickly (Thought at this point, might wait for Spring/my bonus as the dealer just stuck new rubber on the factory rims).

What are your guy's thought on DSB? The grey I nearly bought (decided at the last minute I wanted MMI) had a real standout look. Not sure of the DSB going by pics.

BTW Mops, love your ride too. That was the color of the non-MMI A5 P+ I nearly bought.

Love DSB, and I'm not a blue fan. But it will not be easy to care for. Still remember this car from years ago…

Thanks! Oh yea? Avus? If it was an 09+ it was actually Monza.

    Lmao...

The original owner may bought it some time late 2010, so the car would have 4 years or 50K factory warranty till late 2014. And the CPO just added another 2 years

    I don't see anything wrong...

    Currently own a 2012 Infiniti G37x AWD and a 2011 Audi S5 Prestige.

The Infiniti is fun and the stock exhaust note is unbeatable but lacks the handling and the premium feel. The lease ends at the end of the month and I decided to pick up the S5 to replace her.

As for maintenance, the Infiniti had no out of the ordinary costs. Really reliable cars (second G35/G37 I've had). The oil changes are regular $30-$35. Also, the VQ engine is shared amount many Nissans/Infinitis so parts are easy to come by and pretty inexpensive.

ALL that being said, I got the s5 because I love the power (got the V8) and because of the looks. Hope that helps

both are very reliable cars. both had/have their shares of burning oil issues, which can def b covered under warranty

i love both almost equally, if i wasnt in the a5 i would b in a g37. i chose the a5 cause its more rare, and LEDS!!!. the g37 is a great car, nice bang for ur buck performance ( shoot its over 100hp more than the a5 lol ). but ur in an audi forum, and we all support the a5!

The greatest cost of ownership will not be the maintainance... it'll be the cost of comming to this site (or others) and seeing things that would be fun to add to it.

If cost of ownership is an issue... block all Audi sites from your computer and phone... then sit back and enjoy your car... it's actually quite a good daily driver without all the mods. :)

I didn't mean to start all this wood touching. LOL

Just got approved for the 1.9 limited time Audi certified financing. Looking better and better. :)

The insurance on the G37xS is WAY higher. Going to the 11 A5 my insurance will drop $500 every 6 months compared to my 09 Caddy CTS4 once I switch companies. Even if I switched the Caddy over to the new company the difference is less than 50 bucks per 6 months. The G37X would RAISE costs by nearly $500 every 6 months. Still can't figure out why the G's are so expensive. Often wrecked badly or stolen?

In addition the gas mileage is much better on the A5 so save money there. Add in the 1.9 vs 2.99 rate and the Audi is sort of screaming at me...

the g def has higher insurance rates because more cylinders, sports car, and yea wrecked and stolen. the wheels gets stolen left and right here in NY. almost as much as honda wheels. my g37 sedan was about 100 more than my a5.

and in re APR. im at 1.9 too. BUT they always freakin offer .9 RIGHT after i buy a car -_- so dont b surprised if that happens to you lol

I sold my G for 2011 S5 also. The G is very common, reliable and easy to fix. I went 95k miles and only had 2 sensors and front wheel bearings to fix (not including tires, brakes, etc.) Parts are much cheaper for the G and you can find more DIY info on repairs online for it.

But, here I am in an Audi. It looks 100% better, gets way more compliments and is much more enjoyable to drive- not sure how an A model compares. I got CPO and Audi care plan so it's all covered for a while.

Well, got the A5. One thing I am wondering, among the requisite scotch-guarding and GAP offerings, there was the real offering for AudiCare at 55k, 65k, and 75k miles. I declined but am not sure if that was a good idea or not. It would've added about $30 per month (60 months, though I don't intend to be paying that long, moot point for figuring up this cost). Would it really be worth that?

I think its called Audi Care Plus or something to that effect. Gives you a certain percentage off of regular service at those intervals. If you plan on keeping the car, then sure its probably worth it.

Get the gap insurance, in case of accidental total loss. But paying out of pocket up front comes out cheaper instead of throughout life of the loan .. (Covers loan vs value difference)

I am going to tint the windows ASAP and add a remote starter since it doesn't have Advanced Key and I've gotten very used to it. Also plan do wheel and amild lowering.

Aside from that, not too much on my mind as I am going to try and get my "toy" back going. Though I would ike to up the ponies a bit if it could be done without causes hassles at the dealership.

Same here, just the piston replacement job and the dealer made it a pleasure to deal with. No sensor issues, Nada. Every issue I have had has been from me hitting potholes. Night my car with 35, has 77 now. Love it.
