    Question Engine Serial Number?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Hey guys, I need to find out my engines unique serial number (long story as to why).

Apparently it is a unique identifier like out VIN numbers and all our engines have it stamped or imprinted somewhere...and I'm not talking about those 3 letter codes likes BPG either.

I am wondering if anyone knows where to find it on our engines OR if I can pull the unique code via vag-com or if I call my local dealer and provide my VIN like some people have suggested?

There's a sticker on my engine that has BPG followed by a 6 digit number. Maybe the 6 digit number is the serial number of the engine...I'm not sure. I found two numbers stamped on the engine, but they look like part numbers and not serial numbers.

That's the only thing it could be. No other serial on the engine

I've got this stamped right on the engine face, above the sticker you guys are mentioning.

If anything it would be on the block though. That part above, that schweini posted is the timing cover and is a part that can easily be replaced (and is probably common given our awesome cam issues).

However I have never heard of some sort of engine serial stamping or any way to find out if the engine is original...

From what I've found Googling, the sticker I have with the engine code + 6 digit number is indeed the serial number. It's also (on at least one Audi direct injection engine) stamped on the engine block above the gearbox and under the thermostat.
